Supplier Development Engineer

Purpose
This position is responsible for managing all aspects of the APQP process of new part and product launches, development of new suppliers, investigating, analyzing and correcting problems in production, control and quality. This includes part quality, supplier part scrap, supplier quality and production process evaluation, improvement and warranty issues. Further, this position performs on site quality audits.
Qualifications and Experience
· Possess a Mechanical, Electrical and/or Manufacturing Engineering Degree, Mechanical Technology Diploma/Certificate or a Quality Engineering Certificate.
· A minimum of four years practical experience as a Supplier Quality or Supplier Development Engineer with both mechanical and electrical components.
· Experience with rotating equipment
· Experience in both low and high volume manufacturing environment preferred.
· ASQ Quality Certifications, or equivalent preferred.
· Previous automotive industry experience is a plus.
Main Responsibilities
- Responsible for coordinating the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) for new supplier part and product launches.
- Coordinate, influence or lead suppliers toward product or process improvement.
- Using 8D methodologies, determine the root-cause and correct manufacturing, warranty and scrap issues within a cross functional team.
- Responsible for the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) from suppliers.
- Process non-conformance reports, engineering changes and PPAPs.
- Develop control plans, process flow diagrams, PFMEA and inspection plans.
- Integrate quality requirements in supplier programs for Standardized Work, 5S and Preventive Maintenance (PM).
- Champion the SCAR (Supplier Corrective Action Report) process.
- Coordinate with various departments such as Design, Engineering, Strategic Sourcing and Operations; conduct problem investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Work with Strategic Sourcing on progress of supplier activities and supplier selection.
- Assist suppliers in the development of sampling plans and implement statistical process controls (SPC).
- Determine inspection requirements and gauge selection for new parts.
- Apply engineering disciplines to maintain the integrity of organizational quality standards.
- Play a key role in the Product Development Process (PDP) to implement controls on supplier selection and part procurement.
- Lead Product Development Team for establishing product-specific internal QA/QC processes and equipment
- Visit suppliers as required to deal with onsite quality issues.
- Complete additional job duties and assignments up to 15% of the time.
- Flexibility to travel up to 25% (domestic and international).

· Familiar with various types of measurement gauges, i.e.: CMM, Micrometer, Caliper, Mueller, Sunnen, Dialbore, Feeler, Pressure, Multimeter, Air gauges, go/no-go.
· Experience with large rotating component testing/manufacturing process.
Strong knowledge of:
· GD&T and dimensional metrology.
· Basic statistical skills (normal distribution, cpk, ppk, GR&R, SPC) with Minitab.
· Awareness or knowledge of CMM and interpreting results.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
· Ability to work well independently and as part of a strong team.
· Previous experience in a manufacturing/production tools would be an asset (MRP, ERP, Configuration Management etc.)
Deliverables
The employee will be measured on supplier performance, targets specified for projects, PPAP effectiveness & timeliness, scrap, SCAR closure effectiveness, and warranty rate of supplier parts.
