Ford’s Research and Advanced Engineering team explores new vehicle and societal innovations that require some level of invention before they can be applied to our products and services. The team is building on a history of Ford innovation, including our invention of the three-way catalytic converter to modernize vehicle emissions controls in the 1970s and the world’s first rear inflatable seat belts in 2010.
Today, we are exploring and delivering ways to make smarter vehicles and our transportation system more efficient to improve people’s lives by helping them move more freely, safely and enjoyably. For example, we are changing how our products are made by creating high-quality vehicles in an environmentally and socially responsible way, including the use of sustainable materials. Since 2000, we have used 12 industry- and world-first plant-based materials in our production vehicles. We also are researching the possible use of tomato skin, bamboo, agave fiber, dandelion roots, algae and coffee chaff as part of our ambitious goal of making our vehicles with up to 20 percent sustainable material by 2025.
What you’ll be able to do:
The future of human mobility is happening at our Research and Innovation Center! You will play a key role in supporting, maintaining and updating this state-of-the-art facility. This position also involves interacting/aligning with UAW and outside vendors on various capital related projects within the Center. You will:
Develop Scope of Work documents for demolition and installation of new equipment (electrical, process cooling, Air, etc.)
Working with architectural firms to get drawings needed by UAW Trades or construction partners
Review drawings with customers to ensure they meet project needs, standards and timing
Initiating a Scope of Work Document; complete work order forms for Ford Land for bids; review bids with customers
Lead for project work with outsourced construction partners and assist in purchase order generation
Provide technical/engineering support for RIC laboratory systems, such as HVAC controls, Gas detection and specialty water
Managing test equipment projects, including tracking and managing cost, timing and equipment installations
Leading activities with equipment vendors and skilled trades
Developing capital test equipment projects and project timelines
You will design and deliver projects to support the research and development laboratory work as you collaborate with research engineers and Ford Land to define engineering scope, quotations and project execution.
The minimum requirements we seek:
3+ years of experience developing capital test equipment projects and timelines
Our preferred requirements:
3+ years of experience with industrial building management
3+ years of experience with Facility Operations and/or Test Laboratories
Ability to work independently and with schedule flexibility
Strong analytical, oral and written skills
Microsoft Office skills and basic computer programming skills
Solid understanding of building management and gas detection systems.
