RES is currently accepting applications for a stream restoration practitioner in Dallas/Fort Worth or Houston, TX to join a growing, multi-disciplinary team of ecosystem restoration engineers and scientists currently working on the nation’s largest river, stream and wetland restoration projects. The desired candidate’s responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, performing all aspects of fieldwork (including planning and conducting geomphic site reviews, site assessments using a variety of regulatory methods, and geomorphic surveys), writing technical reports, collecting and organizing data, stream restoration design, and the review and/or creation of stream restoration plans. The ideal candidate will have experience in natural channel design, fluvial geomorphology, field survey and data collection techniques, and environmental regulations.
Bachelors degree and 5-10+ years’ experience in a natural resources design field (such as, but not limited to; landscape architecture, civil engineering, biological systems engineering, agricultural engineering, or water resources engineering)or a natural sciences field (such as, but not limited to, geology, geomorphology, environmental science, ecology or biology).
Superior writing, communication, and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.) with attention to detail. Must produce a writing example upon request.
Ability to effectively focus on a variety of tasks to produce quality results within project deadlines
Ability to travel to sites as needed. Overnight stays are required.
A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
On the job experience with stream restoration, field data collection, water resources engineering, and hydraulic and hydrology investigations
Current registration, or the ability to obtain registration upon employment, as a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist
Knowledge of stream ecology, biology, and geomorphology
Knowledge of watershed hydrology, stream hydraulics, and sediment transport
Understanding of the use of regional regressions, regional curves, and reference data in stream restoration design
Ability to evaluate design discharge, channel cross section, profile and planform using a variety of methods
Ability to read and interpret ecological restoration construction plans
Ability to interpret results from H&H models
AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, HEC-RAS or other hydrologic and hydraulic software
Experience in construction document production
Clean Water Act, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes
