Engineer Intern 1 - Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate
Engineer Intern 2 - Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate plus one year of professional engineering experience.
Engineer 3 - Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus four years of professional engineering experience.
Engineer 4 - Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus five years of professional engineering experience
Engineer 5 - Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus six years of professional engineering experience

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE: Applications will be accepted from persons who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana. However, the applicant will be required to obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.

Job Concepts
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To apply scholastic theory and elementary engineering skills to a variety of tasks involving standard procedures and practices in the field, office, or laboratory in order to acquire practical experience for licensure.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Entry.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct from a higher-level engineer.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Functional supervision may be exercised over Engineering Technicians.
LOCATION OF WORK:
May be used by all state agencies.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Engineer Intern Applicant by the presence of a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Differs from Engineer Intern 2 by the absence of independence when completing basic assignments.
Examples of Work
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
35% Reviews all test reports and other documentation for correctness of information and calculations, and assists in the distribution of data to applicable parties and correspondence with personnel involved in various projects.
25% Examines all documents submitted at the completion of each project, assuring that quality has been maintained by proper sampling and testing, and transmits such documentation to the District Laboratory Engineer for review, approval, and signature.
10% Assists the District Laboratory Engineer in prioritizing activities, planning work sequence, and assigning personnel for accomplishing the various functions of the District Laboratory.
5% Assists in training of construction and maintenance personnel involved in sampling and testing District-wide.
5% Assists in coordinating all test methods and procedures used by construction and maintenance forces for the quality control of materials used in the District.
5% Coordinates and supervises data gathering for pavement quality assurance by use of specialized equipment such as Dynamic Cone Penetrometer.
5% Assists in supervising the operation of the District Laboratory such as assurance of proper maintenance and calibration of all lab equipment, buildings and grounds, and all field testing equipment used within the District.
5% Assists in the inspection and certification of asphaltic concrete, Portland cement concrete, and soil stabilization plants and roadway equipment to assure specification compliance.
5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
