About the Role…
As the Packaging Process Engineer, you will be responsible for process design, specification development, operation and implementation of improvements. You will help to improve industrial processes and plant operations in order to maintain efficiency, reduce cost, improve sustainability, and maximize profitability by utilizing continuous improvement techniques.
About the Team…
The Engineering Team is comprised of technical individuals from various engineering disciplines who work collaboratively to support Beech-Nut Nutrition’s LEED® certified production facility. The team’s core mission is to achieve Reliability Excellence by implementing efficient and effective engineering, maintenance, and operational practices that maximize capacity and productivity. The team works closely with the Supply Chain, Operations and Maintenance Teams to increase reliability processes so we can continue doing what we do best – making high quality, safe, and nutritious foods for babies and toddlers!
What You’ll Do…
Facilitate, lead, and manage capital and continuous improvement projects; this to include mentoring and coaching.
Manage a portfolio of lean projects directed at reducing waste and improving quality to provide greater value by implementing such tools as: 5S, KPI, SMED, VSM, and Kaizen.
Train, mentor and lead cross-functional continuous improvement teams; focusing on measurable quality, service and cost improvements.
Implement a formal program that focuses on reducing process and product variation by utilizing data and tools such as: SPC, Process Capability, Pareto analysis, Fishbone, SMED, DOE, Process Mapping, Spaghetti Diagrams, Cause & Effect Diagrams, etc.
Facilitate meetings as required between appropriate department personnel to analyze process input variables and interpret how they can impact internal and external customers’ needs.
Plan, prioritize, and review the technical plans for the improvement of production and facility equipment.
Design and carry out manufacturing trials, reporting results and implementing changes.
Participate in cross-functional team to troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform root-cause analysis investigations on equipment and facilities issues to keep production lines running at peak efficiency.
Participate in the development of design, installation specifications, commissioning plans, acceptance and inspection criteria for equipment and technical MRO suppliers and technical maintenance service providers.
Serve as a technical leader on cross-functional teams and provide technical support to Supply Chain functions including Sourcing, Manufacturing and Engineering. Write new technical specifications for all new materials and update existing material specifications.
Engage operators across multiple shifts on a regular basis to elicit production and operational issues, addressing immediate needs and developing long term strategies to resolve more difficult problems.
Work with applicable departments to develop training material pertaining to processes, raw materials, equipment operations, food safety, and operator safety.
Apply value analysis to repair/replace, repair/design and make/buy decisions. Coordinate the purchase of equipment, materials, or parts and ensure they meet specifications and quality standards.
Who You Are…
Technical: You have knowledge of process related standards, CAD or AutoCAD, experience in process simulations and knowledge of process engineering software packages. You possess a Lean Six Sigma Certification.
Problem Solver: You have the ability to think outside the box, find constructive solutions, and act proactively and independently.
Team Player: You respect solutions that are efficiently and effectively found through collaboration and cooperation.
Project Manager: You have the ability to plan and execute both small and mid-sized projects from start to finish.
Self-starter attitude: You are a “change-agent” and are comfortable working with all levels within the organization. You are able to question status quo and be a strong communicator.
What You’ll Need…
Bachelor’s degree in related field
7+ years of experience
Strong knowledge of design, specification, and implementation of food processing and packaging systems
Knowledge of the following packaging materials: Glass, Plastic, Corrugate & Flexible Films
