This position will work closely with project managers in the drainage aspects of traditional design-bid-build and alternative delivery infrastructure projects. The Water Resources Engineer Intern must demonstrate research skills and resourcefulness. The ideal candidate must be able to perform complex engineering functions, field data collection, and troubleshooting for a variety of water resource related projects. Duties will include assisting senior engineer with design, contract document preparation, procurement processes and program management assistance with an emphasis on the storm water design components. Ensures that project designs meet local municipality, State DOT and DHEC requirements for storm water run-off. Ideal candidate must be currently enrolled as an academic junior or senior in an accredited college degree program focused in Civil Engineering or related discipline. Prior internship experience is preferred, but not required.
Work with a team of water resources engineers and environmental scientists
Perform engineering calculations and develop hydrologic and hydraulic models
Support civil design, stream restoration, and other water resources design projects
Support stormwater management programs and environmental permitting projects
Support various projects to include site assessments and wetland delineations
Assist in design preparation to include state storm water management plan requirements, drainage design activities on highway and bridge construction projects.
Review documents and design work for compliance with plans and specifications
Participate in field investigations
Assist with surface water, groundwater and soil sampling in various site settings
Aid senior staff with the preparation of technical reports, including compiling analytical data
Some travel and field work may be required in the Southeast
The position operates primarily in an office environment. Must be able to operate PC based systems at a workstation for 8 hours per day and overtime if needed. The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. Must be able to work in a sedentary position for up to eight to ten hours per day. Must have visual acuity to recognize/change/add minute details on CAD drawings. May be required to lift heavy objects, excessive walking, driving, bending and reaching, pointing or directing objects or materials. The general physical demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Expected Hours of Work
The work schedule is Monday through Friday up to 8 hours per day.
Travel will be to the job office with some travel to project sites as needed. Some travel and field work will be required. Travel will predominately be to jobsites in the Atlanta, GA area and may include other ICE projects in the Southeast region.
Education and Experience Requirements
Actively pursuing a degree in Civil, Environmental, Biosystems, or Agricultural Engineering
Engineer-In-Training certification preferred
Experience with AutoCAD and other engineering/modeling software is desired.
Strong MS Office skills required, Word, Excel, Outlook.
Knowledge of any of the following: hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, any phase of civil design, project planning, drawing and specification development, calculations, report writing, wetland delineation, protected species, or stream restoration
Good driving record and must maintain a valid driver’s license
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions to conduct field investigations
Duties include field and office work with light travel around the Atlanta, GA surrounding area
