Cox Automotive, a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises, is seeking a Director of Data Engineering to join our team!
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, this is a temporary work from home role but will ultimately be office based.
We are looking for a strong leader with an engineering background to lead data and software engineering teams in Vehicle & Transactional Data Solutions (VTDS) within our Cox Automotive Data Solutions portfolio. Specifically, this leader will have responsibility for delivery of data solutions from ideation to release, as well as post-release performance and operations of both on-prem and cloud-based data solutions, services and products.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building solutions that are reliable, secure, and resilient and have appropriate monitoring & alerting frameworks in place. This candidate would also have a passion for automation of manual tasks, an understanding of Infrastructure as Code and a proven track record for monitoring and maintaining healthy services and data quality.
The Director of Data Engineering will partner with product, architecture and agile delivery to execute on strategic priorities across the organization, including revenue-generating opportunities for Cox Automotive.
About the Role:
Leads and enables high performing data and software engineering teams to deliver value fast
Communicates, through action, a clear vision of technical strategy, goals and objectives; gathers and incorporates feedback to ensure a clear understanding of expectations is achieved
Ensures that team organization, individual development, and communication are in-line with Technology vision
Builds a positive working environment and culture of learning to maintain healthy morale and overall productivity; establishes a robust engineer growth and development strategy
Drives continuous organizational improvement to help Cox Automotive achieve financial and strategic goals
Implements, measures and reports on the execution strategy defined for the team. Execution includes delivery of planned work, with deliverables that meet enterprise standards with respect to quality, scalability, and reliability.
Instills a DevSecOps culture within the teams and helps teams connect the value in following enterprise standards and leveraging common tools to product delivery
You have experience leading teams that build data products and services for internal customers, such as data science or product delivery teams, with both internal and external facing products.
Ideally, you have previous big data engineering experience, with batch and streaming pipelines, and are familiar with industry trends and challenges. At a minimum, you have previous full-stack or backend software engineering experience, working with data.
Once onboarded, you should be able to speak to the technical details of our on-prem and cloud-native data solutions, services, and stack (AWS, Spark, Python, Serverless, Managed Apache Airflow, Snowflake, GitHub Enterprise, Jenkins, Artifactory, Vericode, Aqua/CloudSploit, Cloudability).
You are an excellent coach, mentor, and developer of both managers and individual contributors.
You value people who are curious, enthusiastic, and responsible and are conscious of voices that have not yet been heard.
You are an active listener, curious, able to ask relevant questions and can stay on topic.
You can demonstrate knowledge of software development best practices, cloud architectures, microservices, containerization, serverless and design patterns.
You have experience in continuous integration, testing, and delivery SDLC, employing automation.
You have experience with an Agile or Scrum based methodology.
