Scope of Position:
This position is responsible for leading and effectively managing environmental matters for all Workplace Services (WPS) facilities throughout the Corning NY area. This includes responsibility for leading compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations and promoting risk reduction and continuous improvement activities.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Develops and maintains systems and strategies that align with division objectives to maintain compliance, reduce risk and promote continuous improvement in all environmental matters.
Supports environmental systems across all Workplace Services facilities in the Corning NY area, including Headquarters, Houghton Park, Big Flats, ZV, and storage warehouses.
Examples of systems include:
Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) obligations (docket renewals, reporting, etc).
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) obligations – Hazardous waste management (training, inspections, shipments, contingency plan implementation.)
State Pollutant Discharge and Elimination System (SPDES) permitting for storm water activities (permit renewals, sampling, submitting Discharge Monitoring Reports, etc.)
City, town and county industrial discharge permits obligations (permit renewals, sampling, report submittals, permit modifications, etc.)
Petroleum Bulk Storage (PBS) tanks (inspections, training, registrations, etc.)
Air emissions compliance (i.e. reporting, emissions tracking, registration modifications, etc.)
ISO 14001 environmental management systems for powerhouse operations.
Coordinates efforts with division and tenant partners to meet various compliance obligations (i.e. generator testing, department inspections, etc.)
Collaborates with Global Environment and Sustainability (GES) and legal frequently to review permit modifications and correspondence with regulatory agencies (NYSDEC, EPA, etc.)
Conducts various environmental audits related to applicable regulatory programs (PBS, SPDES, RCRA, etc.)
Coordinates consultant activities to assist with permit requirements and project support (e.g. various construction project needs such as soil management, as well as routine permit monitoring and reporting data, etc.)
Conducts or coordinates training as needed to ensure required training obligations are met and personnel are educated effectively; develops content as needed.
Supports environmental incident investigation and root cause analysis in collaboration with other parties involved; facilitates action planning to prevent reoccurrence.
Leads environmental-related projects as needed to support objectives above.
Establishes and works with teams, committees and subject matter resources to achieve objectives above.
Travel Requirements: Frequent travel between facilities in the Corning NY area (~20mi radius); travel outside of area is expected to be less than 5%.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Typical work schedule will be 8-5pm M-F although some flexibility for off shift or weekend coverage may be necessary to support project work.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in technical field (e.g. Environmental Science or Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety or related field of study) and 5+ years of experience in an EHS role supporting manufacturing, research and development environment or as a consultant.
Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Local regulations (SRBC, RCRA, PBS, SPDES, NYSDEC, EPA, etc.)
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience leading teams and collaborating effectively with all levels of the organization and cross-functionally.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, verbal and written.
Excellent computer skills; proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Excellent problem-solving skills (e.g. experience with DMAIC, DESGN)
Demonstrated ability to handle ambiguity and effectively manage priorities based on risk
Demonstrated ability to integrate aspects of EH&S management into overall process and facility operations.
CHMM, QEP, PE or other related certifications
Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Work experience in unionized environment.
Project management experience
Certified Green Belt
