We are looking for a Vehicle Crash Safety engineer with specialization in Occupant Protection to support existing and future model year programs. You will work with other crash safety engineers as well as cross-functional engineers from restraints, seats, interior trim, and crash sensors to deliver new product designs and achieve vehicle level targets.
Define component and system level performance targets that align with program content and crash safety requirements
Develop occupant restraint systems and sub-systems using LS-DYNA CAE simulation and/or physical test
Communicate component and sub-system level designs or targets to cross-functional engineers
Compile simulation results in a thorough yet easy to understand way and present them in meetings
Use analytical tools to guide component and system design thru optimization to meet FMVSS, IIHS, ECE, GB, and other regulatory requirements and public domain targets
Develop new analytical and physical verification procedures to reduce physical testing and improve CAE model and/or test accuracy
Communicate principles related to vehicle component and occupant kinematics in various vehicle crash test modes
This position will require a limited amount of travel, mainly in the US, but may extend to international
Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or related degree
2+ years of experience with Vehicle Crash Safety (CAE or Development/Test)
2+ years of experience with Product Development
2+ years of experience developing occupant CAE models using LS-DYNA
Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or related degree
4+ years of experience with Product Development which includes delivering programs from concept through production
Experience using MADYMO occupant simulation
Excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral and written) with ability to work in a team environment
Proficient in Hypermesh, ANSA, and other scripting, programming, and software tools
Well-versed in FMVSS, IIHS, ECE, GB, and other market requirements
Strong knowledge of dummy types and injury criteria in global markets
Ability to assess trade-offs and drive solutions to conflicting attribute requirements
Good understanding of Crash Safety development process and what it takes to deliver a vehicle program
