This position is local to Oahu, Hawaii only.

We are looking for a Ship Engineer trainee for our coastwise small passenger vessel. This 'in-training' position is available aboard our 240' excursion vessel located in Honolulu, Hawaii. The schedule is five (5) 8 hour days with the ability to go home nights and weekends. The Ship Engineer is responsible for safe operation and maintenance of all shipboard propulsion, hydraulic, electrical and auxiliary systems aboard the vessel including topside front of the house engineering. Experience with Caterpillar D399 ME and C9 Generator units, hydraulic, electrical, air conditioning, plumbing and general maintenance preferred.

REQUIREMENTS: Must have a strong understanding of diesel mechanics and subsystems. Working experience with shipboard electrical systems and generator switchboards, fresh/salt/ grey/black water systems, chilled water A/C systems, generalship construction, and front of the house upkeep.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS: STCW, MMD/MMC 4000HP or greater preferred, TWIC card required

Recall: To safeguard the vessel from Tsunami threat, SOHCE requires this position to be ready and available to report aboard within two (2) hours of notification.

DUTIES: Assimilate into the Engineering Department and the 3 existing staff. The training program will include all areas of the ship and all programs, such as: Learn and execute the Preventative Maintenance Program and repairs aboard the vessel, short-term and long-term Preventative Maintenance plans. Learn Main Diesel Engines, generators and subsystems. Communicate needs regarding supplies, spare parts, subcontractor assistance and regulatory requirements. Ensure that all maintenance checks are performed on all engineering equipment. Completion of required records and reports relating to the Machinery Department.
