The Plant Project Engineer is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives for all manufacturing systems from unloading to packaging in order to improve plant safety, quality, productivity, and reliability. The Project Engineer is also responsible for managing capital projects, supporting daily plant operations, and managing the technology transfer process for all parts of the raw to packaging areas.
Responsible for all aspects of capital project management: MOC Management, project definition, project planning, capital expenditure management, project timeline management, and technology transfer associated with capital projects and new products packaging from engineering to operations including training.
Supports the development and implementation of process improvements (reliability, waste, product quality, safety, cost per pound) to meet business needs. This includes working with operating AM teams and participating in the area Small Group and CI meetings.
Participates in the design, specification, development, installation, plant start-up, troubleshooting, and technology transfer for new products/equipment and cost saving initiatives, including collaboration with global process engineering for design standardization.
Provide plant support for diet commissioning including capability assessment, development of processing and equipment specifications.
Serve as primary resource to operating technicians for trouble shooting issues involving design, safety, production, quality defects, process changes and equipment modification by soliciting feedback and driving continuous improvement.
Develop and maintain specifications, technical documentation, and procedures for processing and equipment which are consistent with KPI goals and support Quality and EOHS Standards.
Supports the factory SOP’s associated with new products and process improvements.
Accountable for ensuring compliance w/ CP/ Hills, local, state, and federal standards and guidelines related to EOHS, Quality, and Regulatory.
Understand and comply with Hill’s policies, safety standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Food Safety. Identify and report Food Safety issues to management.
Basic qualifications include:
Bachelor's of science in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering.
Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in cGMP manufacturing with an emphasis on project management/engineering from project concept through implementation.
Experienced on packaging equipment automation controls, robotics and vision systems.
Knowledge of the CEB Capital Procurement.
Familiarity with EOHS, Quality and Microbiology, and plant financials.
Able to support 24/7 operations an able to work any shift, weekends, or holidays or be on call.
Preferred qualifications include:
Food Related Manufacturing Experience with good knowledge of operations.
Project Management Professional Certification.
Technical proficiency including:
Extrusion / Packaging technology.
Standards, weights and measures requirements.
AIB, FDA, USDA and other regulatory agency design requirements.
Statistical Process Control, CPk and Continuous Improvement Methodologies.
Previous experience with bulk material handling systems, including raw materials and finished product.
