Terracon’s Omaha, Nebraska office is seeking an environmental regulatory compliance specialist to join our Team. In this diverse role you will manage projects in environmental compliance for various industrial and manufacturing clients mostly within Nebraska and western Iowa. You will combine your passion for environmental science and engineering with your desire to communicate well to prepare cost estimates, proposals, calculations, permit applications, and reports in accordance with company quality standards and policies. You’ll maintain existing client relationships and develop new ones, assist leadership in marketing efforts and, most importantly, develop your career while you excel at a job you’ll love.
To be successful in this role, you will need working and knowledge in most of the following:
Air permitting and compliance
EPCRA, SARA Title III and TRI reporting
Stormwater and SPCC Plans
Hazardous waste management
Statutes including CAA, CWA, RCRA, among others
Essential Role and Responsibilities:
Work with clients and colleagues to define project scope, schedule and budget.
Coordinate and deliver projects on time and within budget. Projects typically include preparing calculations, permit applications, and reports; developing project schedules, budgets and forecasts; and, communicating with clients and regulators.
Collaborate with environmental scientists, planners, engineers, and other specialists, and experts in business and law to interpret environmental regulations.
Provide technical support for environmental projects, including a determination of regulatory applicability.
Conduct assessments of industrial and municipal facilities and programs to assess compliance with environmental regulations; update, and maintain plans and permits for clients.
Inform clients and other interested parties of proposed environmental regulations that might impact them.
Serve as client liaison with federal, state, and local agencies and officials on issues pertaining to air, SWPPP, SPCC and hazardous waste regulatory requirements.
Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether operations or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
Maintain competency, improve your knowledge and apply that knowledge to the job.
Innovatively apply general rules to specific problems to benefit the client and achieve the client’s environmental compliance goals.
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, environmental science, or environmental-related discipline
1-3 years of experience in a similar role
Demonstrated high level of technical writing ability
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word
Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history
Ability to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work and possess a positive attitude
Certification or professional licensure in field of expertise.
Master’s Degree in an Engineering or Environmental Science discipline.
