Reporting to the Chief Bridge Engineer, the Bridge Engineer performs structural design, bridge integrity oversight and project management work primarily related to bridge and marine terminal construction and rehabilitation projects with additional assignments on highway and culvert replacement projects as required. Develops plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects; perform site visits and condition assessments throughout NL, develops bridge inspection, maintenance and rehabilitation programs, reviews design drawings and specifications prepared by consultants; liaises with regional Departmental staff, consultants, clients and contractors on all aspects of construction projects from the inception to completion providing direction to ensure quality objectives are met. Other related duties as required.

Screening Criteria
Membership or immediate eligibility for membership as an unrestricted Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland Labrador (PEGNL)
Graduation from an accredited university with a degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
Experience in structural analysis
Experience in capital infrastructure project management
Expereince with AutoCAD or other related design software
Experience in design of bridges (asset)
Experience with wharf design (asset)
Experience with concrete inspection and/or rehabilitation (asset)
Expereince with highway / transportation system construction (asset)

A valid class 5 driver’s license is required
Current drivers abstract satisfactory to the Employer
Conditions of Acceptance
Existing or immediate registration as P.Eng with PEGNL
Occasional travel throughout the Province may be required
Required to be accessible to address issues on an emergency basis with respect to concerns arising from natural events and unexpected situations
Required to wear safety equipment such as safety boots, hardhat, safety vests, safety glasses and personal protection measures when completing onsite inspections and overseeing construction
Ability to perform construction site visits, construction site audits, and other activities requiring unrestricted mobility
