Job Description
This position develops and designs both mechanical and electrical components, assemblies, products and/or process improvements with the use of computer-aided drafting tools (Catia V5, Zuken E3 Series Electrical, and AutoCAD) together with conventional and company standards. Should have a firm understanding of CAN and NMEA 2000 network systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
DC Circuit design and development
Define requirements and component specifications for panels, wiring harnesses and electrical systems
Ensure component and system compliance with industry standards or acquire through certification/testing.
Conceive new electrical and electronic system designs for customer convenience and efficient manufacturability
Conduct product research on electrical and electronic equipment and components
Research and integrate new equipment design as industry trends allow
Interface with the propulsion, systems, design and manufacturing groups for system layouts
Generate engineering drawings for new designs and approve all electrical prints for boat release to vendors and to manufacturing.
Review and approve load calculations based on ABYC standards for AC and DC electrical systems
Determine battery and charging system requirements for DC electrical system
Determine grounding and galvanic protection requirements for AC and DC electrical systems
Design and approve main and distribution panel boards for AC electrical systems
Technical design and layout of audio and visual systems including sizing, layout, cabling and schematics
Technical design and layout of navigation electronics including panels, support cabling and schematics
Provide manufacturing with technical support and direction including trouble shooting, testing and system verification. Generate Engineering Change Request (ECR) and Engineering Change Notice’s (ECN) as required
Perform design verification tests on finished product and develop criteria for DVPR testing
Review and approve owner’s manuals for accurate and complete electrical descriptions and information
Perform final electrical design verification tests
Insure timely and adequate completion of all applicable phases of project
Facilitate training seminars for assembly personal informing them of new construction requirements.
Communicates and works with other related Departments as requested.
Qualifications
2 Year Associate Degree or BSEE strongly preferred
3 – 5 years related work experience.
Catia V5 and/or AutoCAD experience preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Office programs. (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel)
Zuken E3 Series Schematic software a plus.
CAN network programming a plus.
Skills and knowledge of DC Electrical (12V to 48V Systems).
Knowledge of 120V AC, Gensets, and other AC Electrical systems components.
Troubleshooting and diagnosis of electrical and mechanical components desired
Strong technical background (able to read parts manuals, and read and develop hydraulic and electrical schematics)
Good interpersonal skills
Strong computer skills including 3D engineering modeling software
