What you can look forward to accomplishing The engineering group at Essen BioScience seeks a mechanical engineer to join our team in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA.
Essen BioScience provides sophisticated instrumentation to life science professionals worldwide in both private industry and research universities/institutes. Our engineering group is responsible for the conceptualization, specification, design, and testing of these instruments. Furthermore, the group works closely with our manufacturing and service groups, as well as outside vendors.
What you can look forward to accomplishing:
In the mechanical engineering group, you will be engaged in all phases of product development and lifecycle, from early concepts to support of mature products with substantial history in the marketplace. All of our products are assembled and tested at the company’s Ann Arbor facilities. As such, you will also be responsible for creating methods and apparatus to assist in the manufacture of components and systems.

B.S. or above in Mechanical Engineering. 5+ years of experience as a practicing engineer.
Experience and aptitude in hands-on activities such as mechanism assembly and adjustment are highly beneficial, as is a working knowledge of various manufacturing processes such as machining and injection molding. As our products are based on imaging applications, experience in opto-mechanical design is also highly preferred. Familiarity and competence in the use of SolidWorks CAD/CAE software is desirable.
Interested candidates should have a desire to work in a small team environment and collaborate with colleagues from other disciplines. This includes a willingness to engage in disparate activities, at times on a daily basis. You must be capable of refining rough product concepts into specifications and functional designs. You should be a resourceful problem-solver, and have an ability to examine and evaluate the suitability of new technologies to the task at hand. We are looking for a team player with solid communication skills, and an organized approach to their work. You should also be interested in developing and exercising the skills and mindset required to become a group leader.
