Purpose and Responsibility of the Position:

The APQP Engineer will interface with customer to ensure customer requirements and product quality are met, and will interface with all aspects of the plant to ensure the cost of quality is being met.

The APQP Engineer is responsible to ensure that the Customer, People, and Investor goals are balanced and met.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Electronic FMEA creation. (Plato e1ns)
  • Facilitate the development of initial core documentation (PF, PFMEA, CP, etc.) at product launch, and Engineering Changes.
  • Prepare documentation to support APQP process including PPAP, PFs, PFMEAs (e.g. AutoDCP), Control Plans, ISIR, IPC, etc.
  • Responsible to reduce RPN values in FMEA’s (MAFACT 5.1).
  • Provide support for new program part launches responsible for submitting customer required documentation.
  • Navigate customer portals to upload documentation and extract customer required specifications and instructions.
  • Quality oversight for verification of process changes at Drive.
  • MAFACT Engineering Module
  • Schedule, coordinate and report from Table cross-functional meetings to address internal and external concerns.
  • CPMP gatekeeper: bi-weekly checks to support all items up to support all items up to date with program managers.
  • Interface with quality supervisors to ensure all quality checks are addressing the key characteristics of the product during launch and for three months post-launch.
  • Responsible for all aspects of corrective actions (on time closures, repeat concerns, root cause, etc) during product launch phases.
  • Responsible for meeting customer targets, i.e. PPM, incident rates, RMA’s.
  • Conduct product audit to verify stability of the process during all pre-series activities.
  • Onsite visits with customer to address quality issues (customer satisfaction).
  • Interface with quality dimensional team to ensure dimensional stability being met as per customer requirements. Mean shifts, PIST and SPC data.
  • Ensure that an investigation takes place on all process failures, such as documented corrective actions corrective actions, PDCA, Teardown records, RMA, product audit Issues.
  • Perform system audits of part production programs and part reviews to ensure acceptable quality levels are maintained and properly monitored.
  • Make decisions and advise on an on-going basis to ensure customer and management directives are met.
  • Coordinate and track progress for interdepartmental studies.
  • Take additional training to maintain pace with new technology. Will require some personal time.
  • Perform analyses for verification of quality concern corrective action effectiveness.
  • Ability to work three shifts as requested.
  • Able to function effectively using computer software.
  • Competent understanding of fixture design concepts and ability to use basic metrology equipment.
  • Able to provide clear direction and training to individual and small groups of employees.
  • Approve inspection instruction and sheets. Generate Quality Concern Sheets and APQP documents.
  • Ensure manufacturing counter measures are implemented, effective, and compliant with Magna’s process change procedure.
  • Control plans, QA inspection instructions, KPI’s, FMEA’s, customer site verification, top 5 failure modes reports, and month end reports.
  • Perform Layered Process Audits in production as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Reporting/KOI’s

  • Weekly Top 5
  • PFMEA implementation in AutoDCP/ Plato e1ns
  • RMA’s, quality alerts, PDCA, on time completion of corrective actions.
  • RPN reduction plans on PFMEA (MAFACT 5.1)
  • Customer feedback/travel reports, product audits (with customer specific updates).
  • CPMP Status/ Gate Reviews

Position Requirements

Communication Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations – CMM Data interpretation.

Mathematical Skills

Proficient in:

  • Mathematical concepts such as probability and standard inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry;
  • Concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions;
  • Standard Costing Techniques;
  • Financial transactions and concepts;
  • Metric and imperial measurement systems;
  • Statistical analyses.

Reasoning Ability

Knowledgeable in the latest customer quality systems requirements. Problem solving abilities using advanced problem-solving techniques. Good organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands / Work Environment: Some lifting involved.
