The job: As the successful candidate, you will use innovative traffic management solutions to solve complex traffic construction problems and implementing those solutions in compliance with state and federal design standards for traffic management and traffic handling.
In this role, you will provide technical expertise in the design and development of plans, specifications and cost estimates for work zone traffic control and staging specific to the I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project.

A day in the life:
Independently review designs, plans, specifications and cost estimates for temporary traffic control and permanent pavement marking on large, multi-staged and complex construction projects.
Evaluate intricate and complex bridge and roadway construction problems.
Analyze complex construction traffic sequencing and apply advanced methods, materials, techniques and processes to bring solutions and resolution.
Coordinate design activities.
Monitor all traffic control and permanent pavement marking to ensure compliance with design standards, policy and guidelines.
Provide technical advice regarding temporary traffic control, permanent pavement marking design and plan preparation and constructability.
Indoor office work at designer/drafter table, field trips throughout the region to field review projects.
Travel to statewide meetings regarding temporary traffic control and permanent pavement markings.
Manage a heavy contract schedule requiring getting plans completed to meet contract deadlines while ensuring that projects are designed from construction and traffic safety viewpoints.

You must have:
A valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering.
Note: "Valid" means you have the ability to stamp. We will verify your license before we consider your application. If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in the state of Oregon within six months of hire.
You will be required to use a vehicle to conduct business. You must possess and maintain a valid driver license and acceptable driving record. Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Experience independently designing and preparing plans, specification and cost estimates for traffic control designs for complex projects.
Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment while communicating with high-profile individuals in a tactful and professional manner.
Good working knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and Oregon supplement of MUTCD, Oregon sign policy and sign design manual.
Experience reviewing and managing consultants work products to ensure compliance with ODOT design standards, policies, and guidelines.
