Drives ideation, development, and commercialization of Exclusive Brand products for the Body Care category. Act as an integral part of the Innovation and Quality team by supporting technical requirements and project workflow. Evaluate product samples and related specifications for new and existing products. Collaborate cross functionally with Merchandising, Quality Standards, Product Compliance and Safety, and Quality Teams to develop and maintain products that meet Whole Foods Market and regulatory standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Contribute to scoping phase of ideation within product categories by identifying trending ingredients and products through leveraging Innovative resources—including, but not limited to market research partners, trend-mapping, category insights recommendations, and comp. shopping.
Develop category insights decks by researching current consumer product goods via market research partner database
Lead development of the product by identifying and conducting comparisons against target products (if applicable) and sensory benchmarks through exploratory comp shops and cuttings.
Lead formulation development by identifying benchtop and/or market retail gold standards.
Lead organoleptic evaluation for potential products, including comparisons between multiple potential vendors’ sample submission.
Designate and execute sensory techniques to best evaluate sample submissions and reduce bias in evaluation.
Communicate sensory, nutritional, and quality parameters to vendors. Provide sample submission feedback and requests for reformulation to potential vendors.
Lead effective launch of items, including sending first production requirements, hosting first production conference calls, and managing the execution of first production activities with vendors.
Evaluate first production samples against approved retains of final formulations, and provide first production approval/release decision to the vendor.
Attend first productions where applicable/pertinent.
Communicate specification evaluations to Product Compliance & Nutrition Analyst and cross functional team in a timely manner
Evaluate, validate and finalize product preparation instructions for Exclusive Brands products (if applicable)
Assure accuracy and integrity of information by adhering to WFM core values, quality and brand standards
Resolve quality standards discrepancies and product quality concerns with internal teams and vendor as necessary
Work on special projects as assigned such as evaluating competitive product, and application of new policies, processes and technologies.
Perform other miscellaneous product development duties as necessary
Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field
Must have knowledge of benchtop formulation as it relates to CPG products for Personal Care, Beauty, Cosmetics and/or Home Essentials
Must have good understanding of product quality control and assurance
Must possess the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and deliver against rapid development timelines
Must be detail oriented and extremely organized
Must possess excellent communication skills and possess the ability to excel in cross-functional team settings
Must have computer proficiency and familiarity with most Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Some travel required (<20%) for conferences and First Production visits
Preferences

2-4 years’ experience working in the consumer packaged goods or ingredient industries
In-depth understanding of product development and related business processes
Experience developing natural and organic products is a plus
Sensory evaluation experience and skills are a plus
Knowledge FDA/state/REACh regulations as they relate to Body Care product development is helpful
General understanding of product development, manufacturing and commercialization
Familiarity of retailer Oracle-based PLM systems would be ideal.
