The position will work within the Consumer Product space. This role shall have the primary responsibility of inventing, developing and releasing product through our APQP process, with the objective of creating competitive designs, aesthetically pleasing and innovative towing products that meet or exceed customer requirements.
Develop product based measured vehicle measurements and native models in CAD-Solidworks.
Invent, design, analyze, fabricate DV samples, validate and release products.
Develop and maintain engineering records pertaining to 3D models, FEA models, bills of material, drawings and system requirements for all releases and changes in the product.
Develop and design the product assembly instructions, instruction sheets and packaging.
Gather all pertinent information for part design from inspection of the OEM components and vehicles.
Resolve design issues, which hinder release to manufacturing or sourced product, evaluate components and assemblies for possible deviation to avoid scrap or field complaints.
Process drawing deviations, inspection reports and engineering change notices.
Work independently in the pursuit of development of product thru the APQP process.
Perform fabrication tasks may include welding, press operation, iron worker operation, machining and hand tool use as needed.
Ensure that BOM & Item Masters are correctly in ERP and processing Engineering Change Requests & Product changes in the Heavy towing business.
Provide manufacturing drawings of components and assemblies using applicable Horizon Global, industry and business standards.
Process the daily engineering change requests for in-house and out-sourced products.
Perform Finite Element Analysis to evaluate design solutions.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational: 4-year Engineering Degree (BS)
Experience: 3-5 years’ experience in OEM or Aftermarket setting minimum, 2-4 years’ experience in product specific area.
Experienced in 3D modeling systems, BOM, Item Masters & document change process.
General design knowledge of fasteners, fastened joints, machining, assembly and plastic molding.
Knowledge of Class “A” surfacing of injection molded plastics, aluminum extrusions, developing complex 3D models.
Hands-on mechanical experience is required. Some metal fabrication (machining, welding, assembly or shop practices) may be required.
Self-directed individual with the ability to resolve technical and project-based issues independently.
Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize complex range of activities.
Show interest in Auto Industry, specifically: trends, new vehicle introductions.
Knowledge of company product lines.
