The mission of the Kalamazoo Utilities Team is to provide the site a constant flow of reliable, cost efficient, compliant utilities that ranges from the Qualified Utilities (PW, WFI, Clean Steam, Pharm Air, etc…) to the Non-Qualified Utilities (Steam, Compressed Air, Chilled Water, potable water, electricity). These utilities are the life-blood of the site.
Within the Utilities Team the Energy Engineer is primarily responsible for the site’s Energy Procurement/Financials as well as the site’s Energy Sustainability Program – functioning as the site’s Energy Champion. The Energy Engineer will be expected to interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders as regards energy usage at the site. These stakeholders include, but are not limited to: Utility Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, Corporate Engineering, Energy/Fuel providers (electricity, natural gas, coal, etc…) & Compliance entities.
The Engineer will also function as a site focal point for Sustainability projects that will impact the usage of the Utilities, entailing energy audit reviews, building project scope and participation on project teams as necessary and ensuring that energy efficient designs are considered and implemented where feasible. The Engineer will be expected to generate a steady stream of projects that will support the company’s sustainability goals for energy, water and waste.
Responsible for efficient generation and use of utilities
Manage the energy savings capital project portfolio
Manage utility spend from budget and procurement through invoice verification
Forecast energy consumption/costs for the site
Track changing procured-energy pricing for financial impact
Responsible for the site’s Energy Rebate program with the local utility provider
Generation of Sustainability projects
Interface with other site capital projects to ensure energy-efficient designs
Bachelor's Engineering degree Chemical/Electrical/Mechanical
At least 9 years experience in Maintenance, Reliability, Utilities or Project Engineering or 5 years experience with a Masters Degree
Ability to negotiate with and manage across departments to get things done
Ability to manage multiple tasks at any given time and work within a matrix organization
Good interpersonal skills
Professional Engineer or Certified Energy Manager preferred
Must be able to navigate the site, including climbing ladders and working on catwalks
Must be willing to work in industrial environments ranging from a boiler plant to chemical manufacturing
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Work is primarily office based but involves field observation
Little travel is expected
Available to provide on-call support after work hours in occasionally necessary
