We are looking for talented and enthusiastic people with the passion to support our vision and help to change the future of aviation. We are now offering an engaging position as a Mechanical Design Engineer working as part of our Product Development Department in our Columbus, Ohio office.
As the Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for participating as a design contributor to the product development process through all development phases for the commercialization of a product. The candidate will participate in design activities including 3D modeling, 2D detailed drawing development, static and dynamic stress simulation, thermal analysis, product coding, and bill of material creation. Ideal candidate will have core expertise in 3D design as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team using structured processes to develop airfield lighting products for demanding airport applications
Perform all facets of product development from proposal support through requirements definition, conceptual development, detailed design and documentation, prototyping, testing and verification, and manufacturing within the organization and within regulatory guidelines including FAA and ICAO
Participate in design reviews and perform extensive testing to insure and/or improve design quality
Maintain project documentation in accordance with quality and change management procedures and guidelines to ensure project information is properly organized and archived
Work closely with supply chain, manufacturing, suppliers, sales teams, and customers as appropriate

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related degree; or equivalent combination of work experience and education.
3+ years’ experience as a design engineer, preferably in a manufacturing setting
3D solid modeling proficiency with SolidWorks (SolidWorks PDM experience strongly preferred)
Experience with electro-mechanical systems and structural design preferred.
Possess the ability to work in a cross-functional team environment in an engineering and manufacturing setting
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good understanding of product design methodology, commensurate with experience level
Understanding of static FEA, preferably with SolidWorks Simulation experience. Other simulation experience (Thermal, Fatigue, LightTools, etc.) is a plus.
Experience with at one or more of the following preferred: Aluminum castings, material properties knowledge, wind loading, sealed enclosures, plastics, sheet metal, heat transfer
Experience in a highly-regulated product design environment (for example: UL, CSA, ETL, FDA) is a plus.
Prior lighting design experience including airfield lighting or automotive lighting applications is a plus
Effective verbal and written communication skills in fluent English
Experience with international customers or fluency in other languages (Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, etc.) is a plus.

The duties of this position will be primarily required at the Columbus, OH office, but may require travel to international ADB Safegate offices, vendor offices or manufacturing site, or customer’s location or construction site. Conditions will vary at each location. While on a job site the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions that include wet and/or humid, cold and heat conditions, working near moving mechanical parts or working near high voltage and high current power equipment. Travel required will vary but is typically expected to be less than 10%.
