Provide leadership and direction regarding process and product cost improvement for all freezing, cooking, processing, and portioning product lines.
Perform piece-part or assembly cost estimates as required for evaluation of: competitive supplier bids, standard product design changes, ‘special’ order requirements, or changes in manufacturing and installation methods as part of the ECN process.
Perform cost and technical evaluations and make recommendations on improvements in manufacturing and field installation methods and/or procedures.
Assume responsibility for determining and communicating benchmark product material, labor, and overhead cost estimates.
Identify and communicate significant changes in product cost structure in period between establishing Standard Costs (Current Cost situation analysis)
Investigate and resolve variances from cost estimating tools.
Play a key role in managing outsource manufacturing supplier relationship, particularly in implementing new designs or methods, and in resolving variances to cost expectations.
Perform ad-hoc projects and support business leadership. Performs other duties as assigned.
Implement processes, methods, and procedures as required to resolve product issues of poor functionality, quality, or reliability.
Knowledge and Skills:
Minimum 4-year University degree in Manufacturing or Industrial, preferred. Must indicate demonstrated effectiveness in:
Evaluating technical merit and/or costs of manufacturing methods, procedures, and processes.
Determining material, labor, and overhead constituents of product cost.
Native production or outsource implementation of new methods, procedures, or products.
Identifying and implementing cost containment or cost improvement initiatives.
Applied knowledge of stainless-steel material specifications, handling, and fabrication techniques, especially: welding, grinding, surface finishing, punching, shearing, bending, joining, coating, galvanizing, metalizing, pickling, passivating, and similar methods and practices.
BT FoodTech Business and/or CAD Systems Training (Syteline, Movex, Inventor, basic Pro-E, AutoCAD), JBT safety policies, advanced software where applicable.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Able to develop strong business relationships and provide functional leadership even though coworkers do not report directly to this position.
Disciplined work ethic, detail oriented and well organized. Effective communication skills (written, spoken and listening) are required with ability to interact with all levels of management. Must be a focused, proactive self-starter with strong analytical skills and the able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Scope of Responsibility/Accountability:
Northfield & Sandusky manufacturing, DSI Engineering, and other major subcontractors to implement new methods or procedures that realize improved cost and/or quality.
Multiple Departments at Northfield, Sandusky, Redmond, and Helsingborg:
Engineering/Drafting to achieve efficient design for manufacture or cost/quality improvements.
Purchasing and Strategic Sourcing as required to achieve: PPV objectives, optimal ‘make-or-buy’ decisions, and successful outsource relationships.
Sales and Sales Support to communicate cost estimates and manage cost estimating tools for accuracy and flexibility.
Field Technicians & Project Managers for effective quality feedback and implementing design and methods improvements during final phases of manufacture (field assembly procedures).
Accounting to obtain and communicate labor and material cost data.

Office, manufacturing plant, and/or construction site environment. Field installation sites typically present conditions which are potentially hazardous and therefore require familiarity with and adherence to applicable safety procedures and policies.
