The Biomedical Engineer will provide Biomedical Engineering advisory services on an industry leading Medical Device cyber security program securing hundreds of thousands of medical devices across dozens of hospitals and hundreds of medical buildings nationwide. Program focus is on minimizing the risks related to cyberattacks on devices connected to a network, or those containing a large amount of Protected Health Information (PHI). Provide advisory guidance on biomedical engineering lifecycle processes, medical device onboarding and testing, CMMS intake, preventative maintenance cycles, and disposition. Work across with cross functional teams of doctors, nurses, facilities operations, security operations, IT, cyber security, network security, identity and access management to improve biomedical equipment security measures, processes, standards, and controls.
Biomedical Engineer is a strategic advisory role on the Medical Device cyber security program. Responsible for providing essential information to senior leaders to facilitate decisions regarding risk to organizational operations, assets, and individuals.
Leverage your extensive background in biomedical device, and clinical technology onboarding, maintenance, and operations. You understand how they operate, their core functionality, how they get access to networks, internet, how vendor / manufacturers perform ongoing maintenance, what information is entered and
CMMS platforms – medical device inventories, tracking, maintenance schedules, audit logging and reporting for compliance.
Help build a more secure methodology for onboarding, certifying, and maintaining BioMed/ClinTech vendor devices.
The Biomedical Engineer ensures that medical equipment stakeholders’ mission/business objectives and overall risk strategy are met by ensuring that medical devices are secured throughout their lifecycle through validated patching, maintenance of business associate agreements between vendors and stakeholders, and determining and communicating risk to stakeholders.
Establish risk reduction measures, provide security solutions to minimize medical device security exposures.
Work closely with IAM, Network Security, Controls and Governance, CyberSecurity and the business.
Provide input on strategies and solutions for Biomedical device network security and access management.
Bachelor’s degree required
10+ years in Biomedical Engineering operations and support in Hospital settings.
Professional certification as a Certified Biomedical Engineer (CBET, CLES, CRES, HCTM, etc.),
MUST BE INTERESTED IN CYBER SECURITY. And willing to learn the cyber security space.
Background in BioMed Clintech device evaluation, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance.
Expertise in biomedical devices, integration, networking and equipment manufacturers, models, modalities.
Understanding of Medical Device communications, networking, protocols, ports, connections to internet.
Familiarity with The Joint Commission certification processes. Have been through a Joint Commission Audit and know how to pass it.
Familiarity with FDA Med Device regulations, guidelines, processes. (e.g., Electronic Communications Privacy Act, Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, Protect America Act, FDA Postmarket Management of Cybersecurity in Medical Devices) nice to have.
Contract to perm role – Must be willing to convert to FTE at the end of 3mo.
