THE TITLE OF ENGINEER/TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS MANAGER WILL BE DETERMINED BASED ON QUALIFICATIONS OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Accountable for providing technical leadership and consulting services for Technology Development & Engineering in the area of voice services evolution onto next generation technologies. This person will individually and as a team leader provide technical expertise that will result in leading change with SaskTel in this area of technology. Designs and provides technical direction to engineering projects in technology area.

LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABILITIES
People

Leads, directs and manages staff to ensure the effective use of HR resources. Maximizes performance by selecting (hire external or promote from within), developing, mentoring and sustaining a high level of expertise among staff. Organize and direct work including prioritizing assignments, establishing objectives, providing regular performance feedback, conducting year end performance appraisals and taking necessary corrective action as may be required. Assists in staff career planning, establishes development and succession plans and ensures relevant HR procedures and policies are followed (provisions of the collective agreement, performance appraisals, discipline, grievance, etc). Accountable for provisioning and managing contracted resources as may be required.
Accountable for promoting a productive and positive environment for staff that encourages innovation, teamwork, initiative and models corporate values. Motivates staff by assigning challenging work, planning and managing internal communications and awareness of corporate direction, mission, plans and activities.
Ensures all safety, health, environmental and code of conduct policies, programs and standards are understood and complied with at all times.
Proactively identify and action opportunities to increase customer satisfaction (internal and external customers).

Financial

Ensure sound financial control within area of responsibility by developing annual operating and capital budgets, monitoring performance to budget and taking action as appropriate. Develops, negotiates and implements contracts for acquisition of goods & services related to area of responsibility.

Innovation

Accountable to research, develop, define and implement innovative long and short term plans, policies and objectives. Provides expertise to senior management providing education, studies and consulting on opportunities that will impact business strategy. Ensures alignment and integration with the corporate strategic plan and develops plan and operational metrics, including approaches for demonstrating business value.
Accountable to proactively identify and action opportunities to improve revenue and growth initiatives, decrease costs, increase customer service levels and increase employee engagement.
Accountable to develop opportunities to spark innovation in technology or product service delivery or process improvements.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Accountable for research, development and revision of technical standards and policies relating to implementation of Next Generation Networking (NGN) technologies such as SIP, VoIP, VoDSL, H.323, IPS7, IADs, MGCP, PRI and other Gateways, RTP Portals. Accountable for the identification, evaluation and certification of new NGN equipment and systems according to these standards.
Accountable for providing technical expertise in recommending technical solutions and for the development of professional reports, presentations and studies that SaskTel management can rely upon as input to corporate decisions.
Accountable for maintaining both personal and team technical expertise associated with this position and for introduction and dispersion of this knowledge within SaskTel.
Accountable for the analysis, interpretation,revision and/or adoption of standards as drafted by national and international standards organizations.
Accountable for providing professional technical consulting and support to both internal and external groups to further SaskTel's corporate interests.
Accountable for the development of project plans and the technical direction supervision of projects and/or personnel associated with this position and for identifying such projects and the requirements for technical personnel associated with them.
Accountable for following and applying corporate directives.
Perform administrative functions such as safety plan administration annual work and business planning and establishing annual objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and experience (one of the following combinations):
University degree in Electrical, Electronics or Electronic Systems Engineering, along with 2 years of relevant technology experience, and be qualified to register as a Professional Engineer.
University Degree in Computer Science along with at least four years of relevant technology experience.
Diploma or Certificate in Engineering Technology or Computer Science, with at least six years of relevant technology experience.
Demonstrated thorough knowledge in TDM or IP Network technologies, IMS, SBC or Voice Switching with knowledge of Telecommunications network and computer-based systems an asset.
Ability to function well in ambiguous situations, with particular emphasis on interpreting and applying existing technologies and the inter-working with emerging technologies.
Ability to learn new technologies and apply them to effective solution of business problems.
Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience with project management.
