The Nuclear Safety Basis Engineer or Analyst will work in Albuquerque, New Mexico or at various national laboratories to integrate safety into management and work practices at all levels, addressing all types of work and all types of hazards to ensure protection of workers, the public, and the environment.

Partner with multidisciplinary teams to innovatively improve the safety analysis of existing nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
Be responsible for creating and reviewing all documented safety analysis (DSA) and technical safety requirements (TSRs) for nuclear facilities.
Interface with a wide variety of departments such as operations, engineering, and assurance.
Conduct evaluations of radiation transport and shielding design; conducting computer modeling for nuclear applications.
Implement, test, and apply software to support safety software validation.
Manage changes to nuclear and industrial facilities through the unreviewed safety question (USQ) process.
Perform engineering analyses of nuclear or radioactive materials, chemical inventories, energetic materials, and operations to determine a facility's hazard categorization.
Perform safety basis analyses for facilities, including hazard identification, hazard analysis, accident analysis, and control selection, and provide extensive experienced technical advice and assistance to line organizations and federal regulators on complex safety basis issues.
Develop and maintain specific safety basis processes and procedures.
Model criticality safety calculations, radiological and chemical atmospheric dispersion, reactor physics, and radiation transport.
Conduct readiness reviews for nuclear and industrial facilities to determine whether the facility has achieved readiness for the safe startup or restart of operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degrees in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related STEM technical field.
Three (3) years of experience with nuclear safety basis, nuclear safety analysis, or nuclear system engineering.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.
