What you will do
As a Staff Test Engineer, you will act as the testing representative and primary responsible point of contact between the lab and the Product Development Group they are assigned to. Based on Stryker culture they will develop a strong business relationship with the PD group they are responsible for supporting and stays abreast of the BU’s short- and long-term testing timelines and milestones. This position will be key to determining test protocols, screening design concepts with the CAE group, identifying appropriate sample size/statistical significance, and helping the test lab to work with firm dates that test results are needed. This position will also perform testing to support their PD group and/or train junior staff to perform the testing.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the testing needs of the Business Unit they will be partnered with. This includes assisting the BU with feedback into their testing timelines, test protocol development, and proactive planning with the Test Lab and CTE when appropriate. The Staff Test Engineer with work to ensure PD's testing needs are well thought out and proactively involve all of the necessary supporting groups before testing such as Metrology, Quality, CAE, and the Testing Support Team to name a few.
Assist design groups/customers from the initial design phase to final verification/validation testing, to ensure a smooth transition into, and through, the Test Lab.
May assist in selecting test equipment, writing software for test equipment, and test set-up.
Has strong working knowledge of good laboratory practices, testing standards, procedures, statistical knowledge, and testing execution.
Is a key contact for PD in determining the mutually agreeable testing start and completion dates.
Formulates test guidelines and procedures and may recommend revisions of specifications where necessary.
Evaluates, recommends, and maintains engineering related computer systems.
Will assist Test Lab management with priorities, scheduling, CTE builds, and technician training for all work related to the BU that the Staff Test Engineer supports.
Will be the key Test Lab contact for the PD group they support.
May coordinate the activities of 1 or more temporary employees
May train others on functional area related topics.
Will develop monthly reports related to the test lab support of their BU including on-time delivery, efficiency, and be able to provide detail on any delays or slippages in the testing schedule.
What you need
Bachelor of Science is required
A minimum of 4 years of relevant testing experience is required with a B.S.
A minimum of 2 years of relevant testing experience is required with Masters/PhD
Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology degree, preference for Masters/PhD
Basic understanding of testing, testing equipment, good laboratory practices, and department metrics
CAD (ProE, SolidsWorks, AutoCAD electrical) is a plus
Proficient use of common laboratory test equipment is required
Effective interpersonal communication skills are required.
Mechanical/electrical/software problem-solving skills are desired
comfortable and confident speaking in front of medium to large groups of people
Test Lab/ Test System experience required, Trello, PowerBI, Kirby, and Test Lab Database is preferred
Exercise discretion and independence when applying professional expertise
Must display a positive, can-do, collaborative attitude
Must be able to manage time and projects proactively
Must possess strong interpersonal skills including written and oral communication
Must be able to bring tasks through to completion with minimal supervision
Must be able to complete detailed documentation accurately
Must be able to analyze and correct complex processes and/or product issues using independent judgment.
