Junior Mechanical Engineer

We’re searching for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to assist in our push to design and manufacture industry leading open source linux computers. You’ll be responsible for providing product development assistance to support both sustaining and new product development. Good communication, teamwork and organizational skills are essential. CAD experience and an understanding of consumer electronics, manufacturing methods, and a willingness to try new things in a small team environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Creates prototypes to evaluate new design concepts and refine current models
Participates in product evaluation with engineering team
Generates protocols for testing/analyzing the product to assist in performance increases
Maintains and improves technical documents such as engineering prints, bill of materials, and assembly instructions.
Designs for manufacturability, inspectability, and optimum cost
Achieve company design objectives of easy serviceability, maximum performance potential, efficient manufacturability, and aesthetic beauty
Take a prototype design to a fully functional shippable product utilizing in house machine capabilities
Other duties as assigned
Expected Areas of Competence
Familiarity with 3-D modeling CAD software (e.g. Solidworks, Creo, Fusion360)
Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
Ability to effectively work within a cross-functional team to complete critical project tasks
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple small to medium complexity project assignments and complete work in a timely manner
Experience sheet metal design and fabrication
Good problem solving skills, written, and verbal communication skills
Base understanding of thermal dynamic principals
Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering or similar
