Our displays provide vital travel information in airports and train stations and along highways. They advertise the price of gas, store specials, and more as you make your daily commute. They also enhance spectators’ experiences at sporting events of all kinds, from Little League to the major leagues.
This student position is located in Brookings, South Dakota. A candidate must be enrolled and registered as a full-time student. Ideal candidate should be available to work approximately 15-20 hours per week during the academic year and at least 20 hours per week during the summer.
What would I do?
As a Daktronics student, you will work with a team of developers and professionals to discover, prepare, and analyze data from across the enterprise to present fact-based insights through the development of BI and Analytics solutions. You will primarily focus on:
Team Collaboration: Work within a larger development team to solve problems
Review requests, profile data, and determine best approach for delivering a solution.
Discover, design, develop, document, and maintain solutions, including the back-end development for the data preparation using languages such as SQL and front-end development for presentation of data through reports and dashboards using tools such as Microsoft’s Reporting Services and Power BI.
Documentation of solutions, including unit testing from development along with entity relationship diagrams and models.
Review and investigate unplanned work items including communicating findings back to team and end users.
Assisting with quality assurance (QA) of solutions.
Assist in managing administrative tasks with solutions including report subscriptions and dataset refreshes.
Troubleshoot data issues with production solutions.
Reinforce the Daktronics Guiding Principle that Data is an Asset as part of the Business Analytics team and the entire Data Program.
The preferred candidate will be a full-time student currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor or Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems or related fields.
The preferred candidate will be in their sophomore or junior year of school.

Must maintain an acceptable GPA.

Demonstrate an aptitude for technical learning. Preference for knowledge in these areas:
Technical understanding of database management systems, database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
Know and understand computer language(s).
Understanding of techniques, processes, and languages (TSQL or PL/SQL) and for accessing data from structured environments.
Experience with any programming language, preference given to applicants with experience using R, Python, DAX.
Strong interpersonal skills showing collaboration with others and building effective relationships.
Ability to effectively problem solve both alone and in a team setting.
Ability to understand and take direction on solving complex business information problems.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all Daktronics information.
Good oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, self-motivation.
Ability to clearly communicate insights from data analysis.
Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
