We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Thermal Engineer working on satellite systems to join our team located in Englewood, CO. Under general supervision and with regular review, this position supports the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation and resolution of engineering problems of moderate scope and complexity. Assignments are normally accompanied by general instructions and suggestions, outlining possible approaches, sources or information, and potential problems to be encountered with work reviewed regularly for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy. Tasks involve the exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance. Documents findings and implemented solutions and communicates results to engineering staff. Contacts are primarily internal with infrequent inter-organization or customer contact on routine matters. May provide direction to design or technician staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
System engineering and technical design and analysis for studies and missions from bid generation, through to launch and operations, with a thermal system focus.
Perform thermal subsystem level design, including requirement analysis, mission analysis, and design trade-offs.
Perform thermal analysis tasks, including hand calculations to support early feasibility and subsystem / system level thermal models.
Develop innovative but practical solutions to thermal interface issues arising in design, assembly, integration and test of satellite systems.
Perform thermal test predictions, testing, evaluation and correlation.
Generate thermal interface control documentation, test plans and procedures.
Support the wider team in mission and operational concept development for satellite missions.
Liaise with all levels of program and engineering staff on thermal design and test matters and support other teams / disciplines as necessary.
Apply technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve engineering problems.
Prepare technical responses to bids, presentation materials and reports, for a variety of applications and customers.
Support customer and supplier meetings and presentations at all project stages.
Liaise with customer and supplier staff, and staff from other parts of GA.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
Familiarity with all aspects of the satellite system life cycle, including environmental test, launch, commissioning and operations.
Understanding of orbit mechanics and the impact of different orbits on satellite thermal design.
Experience with Thermal Desktop is an advantage.
Experience with SINDA coding is a plus
Familiarity with passive and active thermal management techniques.
Additional knowledge of the space radiation environment would be of interest.
Understanding of clean room compliance and safe working practices.
Thermal Vacuum test experience desired
Familiarity with ANSYS/SpaceClaim and Solidworks a plus.
Familiarity with Excel and Matlab post processing techniques.
Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
Strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
