Job Summary
The IT Security Engineer is responsible for developing effective computing solutions to increase the security of GVEC’s systems and projects. This role operates in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and requires the ability to multi-task, provide operational support and work closely with peers in implementing new technologies. This person must be a collaborative team player that can work across multiple groups and have the ability and willingness to mentor others and have a sound business approach for supporting GVEC’s initiatives. This person will need to be mindful of the customer experience and drive operational excellence in their everyday work. Besides a strong technical role, this position also requires strong people skills and an individual who enjoys the dynamic nature of GVEC’s environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure and set up firewalls and intrusion detection systems
  • Respond to network intrusions and be familiar with performing forensic investigation
  • Test new or upgraded hardware and software and implement new technologies
  • Create test plans which will allow for a proper evaluation of security issues for new hardware and software
  • Identify security solutions and implement a multi-layered defense to protect the networks
  • Serve as the point of contact and liaison between GVEC’s Managed Security Service Provider and GVEC
  • Provide Tier 2 support for service desk
  • Project Manager for projects as assigned
  • Create and document procedures regarding Information Security standards within the organization
  • Monitor the health and analyze performance of the Information Security environment
  • Under minimal direction, perform basic analysis, design, implementation and maintenance activities in various areas of IT, as needed
  • Formulate and/or define scope and objectives of feasibility studies
  • Proactively enforce security policies to ensure IT assets are protected
  • Assist the IT Engineering Manager in the development of Best Security Operating Procedures according to industry best common operating procedures
  • On-call Rotation for 24/7 business operations

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of Information Security technologies including design, configuration and implementation in large enterprise environments
  • Demonstrate sophisticated problem solving and organizational skills, as well as the ability to think critically and logically to effectively implement and maintain GVEC’s multi-use computer systems and networks
  • Proven production service trouble-shooting skills that span applications, systems, and network
  • Strong attention to detail with a predilection toward automating as much as feasible
  • Consistently applies the concepts of appropriate standard methodologies and best practices
  • Prepares reports, records progress and creates solutions to IT Security problems/issues
  • Interfaces with suppliers and vendors as needed to evaluate software, hardware or services and makes recommendations
  • Ability to mentor others and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative environment.

Preferences:

  • Possess efficient vendor management and budgeting skills
  • Experience with network technologies, including VLANs, NATs, and Firewalls preferred
  • College degree (BA or BS); technical degree preferred, or relevant experience
