New Product Development Engineer
Olin Corporation is a leading vertically-integrated global manufacturer and distributor of chemical products and a leading U.S. manufacturer of ammunition. The chemical products produced include chlorine and caustic soda, vinyls, epoxies, chlorinated organics, bleach and hydrochloric acid. Winchester's principal manufacturing facilities produce and distribute sporting ammunition, law enforcement ammunition, reloading components, small caliber military ammunition and components, and industrial cartridges. Winchester has a New Product Development Engineer opportunities available in Oxford, MS.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Note: Not to be construed as all-inclusive)
Act as project manager of new product development programs encompassing all product categories of the Winchester Division (i.e. consumer products, law enforcement, industrial, and military).
Responsible for all stages of development from the initial research, through prototyping, and finally initial production coordination.
Engineering will include aerodynamic analysis, ballistic testing & photography, manufacturing tool design, equipment design, process definition, and quality documentation.
Maintain a close working relationship with Marketing, Manufacturing, material suppliers, and other external research labs.
Assist Marketing with technical support relative to presentations, demonstrations, and new product discoveries working with Law Enforcement, Military, and Industrial representatives, as well as outdoor writers covering commercial products.
Work closely with Marketing, Manufacturing, and Quality to identify new product problems as they arise in Manufacturing and recommend corrective action.
Keep abreast of competitive new product development and maintain an awareness of new product requirements within the industry.
Recommend new products offering category leadership qualities for innovation, manufacturing simplicity and/or cost reduction.
Ability to conduct multiple projects simultaneously.
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
Bachelor of Science and/or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with the minimum of a 3.0 GPA
Minimum of 1 year Engineering and or Engineering Co-Op experience in a manufacturing environment
Microsoft® Office and three dimensional computer aided modeling experience
Must possess excellent customer service, communication (oral and written), and time management skills
Must be creative, self-motivated, and an independent thinker
Must be able to travel up to 10%
QUALIFICATIONS – PREFERRED
Recent related product development experience in an engineering role
Relevant product development experience within the firearm or ammunition industry is strongly
Prior project management experience with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Knowledge of the AutoDesk® Inventor family of products
Prior experience with aerodynamic and finite elemental analysis software
Ammunition and firearm experience along with knowledge of the shooting sports industry
