LOCATION: Story City, IA
To continually develop improvements to the Story City manufacturing process and assist with troubleshooting of daily production problems. This individual will ensure the converting process is under control and repeatable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Participate with the gather of information needed to establish process conditions for jobs so we are consistent from run to run. This involves communications with Manufacturing, Technical, Quality Assurance, Scheduling, Graphics, and Suppliers.
Ensure that process conditions are assigned and followed, including the establishment of acceptable operating ranges.
Observe the trial/developmental/production orders as they are run, including troubleshooting issues.
Document and monitor processing conditions to ensure consistent results.
Work closely with Maintenance and Engineering to ensure effective solutions to maintenance issues.
Work closely with Technical to resolve material and product issues.
Analyze production and test data to establish consistent production results. Interpret data and Recommend solutions to re-occurring processing issues. Contribute to the perfection of products to the required technological specifications or end uses.
Travel as needed to suppliers and/or customers.
Ability to work with and communicate with all levels of the organization is required. This will range from hourly up to and including the Operations Manager.
Must be flexible to allow for attendance at trials/production during nights and/or weekends if necessary.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Related Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university (Engineering degree preferred); or six to eight years of experience in similar flexible packaging role; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Related experience: Flexographic printing industry, laminating experience with dry bond/solventless (in line/out of line), web handling background, and packaging converting experience highly desirable. Knowledge of testing performed in a converting operation and knowledge of statistics and the ability to apply and interpret statistics to a manufacturing situation is desired.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, technical procedures, legal documents or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and top management. Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Ability to add, subtract, multiple, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
