This position will require that the engineer work in a design/build environment to develop build strategies and conceptualize methods and fixtures required for fabricating and assembling submarine components, structures, systems and modules. Primary responsibilities will be identification and development of methods and tools required by the shipbuilder. Duties include development of details and designs for tools and fixtures, preparation of Manufacturing Engineering Procedures for sequence and alignment critical installations, and construction support. Workscope will focus on the Columbia Program. Daily interaction with manufacturing and planning representatives from Groton, Quonset Point and Newport News, designers, and vendors is expected. Frequent local travel between Groton and Quonset Point is required.
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Marine engineering
10-14 years of relevant experience
Construction support experience
A broad understanding of structural/mechanical design, materials, weld design and bolted joints
Requires skills in written and verbal communication, problem solving and project management.
