The Biomedical Engineer will provide Biomedical Engineering advisory services on an industry leading Medical Device cyber security program securing hundreds of thousands of medical devices across dozens of hospitals and hundreds of medical facilities nationwide. Program focus is on minimizing the risks related to cyberattacks on devices connected to a network, or those containing a large amount of Protected Health Information (PHI). Provide advisory guidance on biomedical engineering lifecycle processes, medical device onboarding and testing, CMMS intake, preventative maintenance cycles, and disposition. Work across with cross functional teams of doctors, nurses, facilities operations, security operations, IT, cyber security, network security, identity and access management to improve biomedical equipment security measures, processes, standards, and controls.
Biomedical Engineer is a strategic advisory role on the Medical Device cyber security program. Responsible for providing essential information to senior leaders to facilitate decisions regarding risk to organizational operations, assets, and individuals.
Serve as strategic advisor working with Security teams (Network Security, IAM, Password Vault, MFA) providing guidance on medical devices, biomed processes, procedures, and maintenance.
Work closely with Network Security, Access Management, Controls and Governance, CyberSecurity, business.
Provide input on strategies and solutions for Biomedical device network security and access management.
Establish risk reduction measures, provide security solutions to minimize medical device security exposures.
Develop and maintain documentation related to Biomedical IT architecture, processes and support.
Develop and maintain documentation related to med device information security architecture, and processes.
Help create a secure methodology for onboarding, certifying, maintaining BioMed vendor devices.
Support security efforts on medical device inventories, tracking, maintenance schedules, and audit logging.
Requirements – Basic Qualifications:
Minimum five (5) years Biomedical / Clinical engineering experience in Hospital settings required.
Professional certifications: Certified Clinical Engineer and/or Biomedical instrumentation (CBET, CLES, CRES).
Bachelor’s degree in related field (i.e. biomedical, clinical, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or business), OR additional four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
Background in hospital Medical device onboarding, setup, testing, inspections, preventive maintenance.
Familiar with Medical Device communications, networking, integration, interoperability, web connections.
Minimum five (5) years of related experience to include: experience with biomedical devices and systems that tightly integrate with clinical, patient care systems; current and emerging medical equipment technologies, Federal, State and local laws and regulations and licensing agencies (i.e. CAPS, CMS, The Joint Commission and HIPAA, AAAHC (for Ambulatory Surgery Centers).
Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database management, and presentation software.
Possess and maintains a valid U.S. Driver’s license.
Minimum ten (10) years of experience in a healthcare delivery, multi-hospital environment providing medical equipment and consultative services for hospital and/or medical office buildings (clinic) preferred.
Clinical Specialty: technical knowledge of clinical technology (ie, devices and systems) in at least two clinical specialties along with an understanding of the related clinical practices. Specialty in Imaging, optics, MRI.
Master’s degree in related field (i.e. health administration, MS engineering, and MBA) OR six (6) years of experience in a directly related field preferred.
1-3+ yrs experience in Information Security, Cyber Security, or IT Security, etc. Any exposure to Security, SIEM, IDS, IPS, Vulnerability Management, IAM, Access Controls, Scanning, Network Security, or IT Controls.
