Mechanical Engineering collaborates closely with the Electrical Engineering, Product Management, Operations, and Sales groups to develop and sustain the best plastics auxiliary equipment in the world. This position will drive design of custom products per customer specifications, work to develop innovative product designs and assist in product development, as well as coordinate activities to evaluate and resolve product or process related issues. Reporting to the Engineering Manager and located in Pinconning, Michigan.
Duties and Responsibilities
Quickly and methodically, gain expertise in the Conair product line of downstream extrusion equipment
Develop collaborative relationships with key product stakeholders to help drive design based on customer requirements, communicate efficiently with other stakeholders about projects, and be an effective decision maker in a fast-paced environment
Lead the successful development of new products through all phases of product development (concept to production)
Provide root cause analysis of issues with effective corrective action solutions and design enhancements
Investigate, evaluate, and implement new technologies into Conair products by working with the R&D lab team, manufacturing team, and vendors
Orchestrate design reviews throughout the process to keep teams up to date on progress
Communicate with customers in sales in clear concise interactions to make decisions quickly and keep projects progressing.
Assist in the creation of complete drawing packages including detailed specifications, simulation, test results, verification support documentation, bill of materials, and marketing/support literature
Qualifications and Work Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
5+ years relevant experience, particularly in the design and development of complex machinery
Experience with the full life cycle of bringing products to market with a record of successful completion of products and introduction into the marketplace
Ability to work independently to achieve agreed upon targets while working with others to obtain necessary information and knowledge to produce desired team results.
Practical experience with failure analysis and troubleshooting
Analysis of design components including Finite Element Analysis, thermal, shock, and vibration
Proficient in the use of CAD design tools, preferably Solidworks
Working knowledge of electrical power/controls
Practical experience with DFM/DFA methodologies is a plus
