Job Summary: Develop and maintain all aspects of the Cubic Mission and Performance Solutions Rugged IoT (CMPS RIoT) mechanical product build, continuous product improvements, design for manufacturing improvements, and build and product mechanical documentation. Mentor and monitor manufacturing assembly and test staff and advise assemblers, testers, engineers, and managers on all aspects of the mechanical product and manufacturing domain. Performs complex test mechanical engineering assignments following designated standards and procedures. Works closely with other engineering disciplines. Duties require application of engineering principles and techniques. Performs various professional factory, field, and office engineering work related to product development, transition to production, full rate production support, and product line close out. Provides technical support to the Production floor, Purchasing, Suppliers and Engineering. May provide training and/or technical and function direction to manufacturing labor as well as technical support staff and related departments. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts or participates in research, design, development and testing of mechanical hardware to include component modeling/analysis and tolerance analysis for designated products and/or customer applications.
Assesses the severity of problems, determines corrective action, resolves technical problems, performs fault isolation, and implements solutions.
Performs mechanical design for product prototypes and test fixtures.
Specifies materials, equipment and supplies.
Modifies existing engineering designs.
Provides clarification and manufacturing mechanical input to engineering design documentation.
Assists with Production Acceptance Test (PAT) generation and implementation.
Conducts prototype construction and test and reviews findings with engineering.
Logs, compiles and evaluates engineering data.
Generates and supplies technical data to tech writer for engineering manuals and procedures.
Writes manuals, procedures and reports.
Analyzes equipment to establish operating data.
Supports on-site test installation activities at contract manufacturer.
Assists in preparing design specifications.
Assists in drawing and specification inputs.
Assists in the preparation of specifications and assessment of vendor products.
Monitor and review work of assembly technicians or design support personnel.
Provide technical direction and guidance to assembly technicians or design support personnel.
Assign and outline work, advise on technical problems, review work for technical accuracy and adequacy, and assure completion of assignments are on schedule.
Applies and maintains quality standards.
Engages in continuous self-improvement of technical skills and improvements in mechanical engineering design, testing techniques, and technologies.
Recommends value added changes to existing manufacturing mechanical practices, standards, and tools.

Minimum Job Requirements: Four-year college degree in mechanical engineering or science discipline plus a minimum of two years of experience or an applicable Master’s degree. Desired experience in designing, developing and testing hardware. Desired experience in producibility engineering/ design engineering in an electro-mechanical environment. Effective written and oral communication skills. Able to use typical office automation products such as word processing and spreadsheet programs. Mental ability to perform analytical work. Ability to prioritize work, complete multiple tasks and work under deadlines. Good interpersonal skills and be able to successfully work within a team. May be required to travel domestically and internationally and work odd hours, in-line with customer requirements. Strong technical problem solving skills required to work closely with engineering, manufacturing and procurement personnel in cohesive manner to support project requirements. Strong commitment to efficiently achieve high quality results is required.
Experience designing and reviewing mechanical structures, components, and subsystems for manufacturability using CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
Able to debug and perform measurements and tests at module, subassembly, assembly, and component level to assess mechanical or manufacturing problems and identify corrective action.
Experience identifying, researching, and approving requests for alternate parts in designs used in austere environments.
Experience reviewing and dispositioning of non-conforming material.
Able to define and perform tests and form and fit verifications of new and existing designs.
Ability to test and document new products and clearly communicate design improvements.
Aptitude to operate environmental test equipment
Experience with SolidWorks. Certifications a plus.
Experience with identifying, developing, and implementing in house tooling, fixtures and test equipment.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) knowledge and experience.
Thermal flow modeling and alternatives analysis.
Experience with MIL-STDs 810 for design and testing.
Experience manufacturing rugged communication, computer, or power designs used in austere environments.
Experience with an enterprise level Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system such as Windchill or Aras
Experience with major Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system such as SAP
Experience with maintaining configurations between ERP and PLM toolsets
Experience manufacturing to RoHS compliance.
Experience with CRM tools such as SalesForce and maintaining configurations between ERP, PLM and CRM toolsets
Experience with MIL-STDs 461 and 464 (Electromagnetic Interference and Electromagnetic Compatibility) for design and testing.
Experience manufacturing products for system level Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC).
Experience manufacturing with conformal coating.
Experience manufacturing to CE compliance.
Experience manufacturing to UL compliance.
Knowledge of deployed communications and telecommunications
Military communications experience desired but not required
