We have an immediate need for a Technical Director in our Marine Division to be based out of our Woodcliff Lake, NJ or New York, NY office location.
The Technical Director is the lead for all engineering-related activities within the respective division, ensuring all division projects, initiatives and processes are in conformance with the organization's established policies and objectives. The Technical Director will have an excellent technical background with strong leadership skills and utilize best practices to provide expert technical guidance on all division work and deliverables.
Provides technical input to division-related business development and marketing activities, such as: writing key technical sections of proposals, preparing cost estimates, determining required software for project opportunities and if licenses are available, verifying that staff resources of adequate technical capability are available.
Attends/presents at networking events.
Reviews marketing content for technical accuracy.
Resource/Technical Management Responsibilities:
Ensures the consistency and quality of work product delivered across division.
Responsible for updating, maintaining, and enforcing the QA/QC program within the technical division.
Establishes division standards for engineering plans/drawings, calculations, and related workflows and ensures that these are consistently updated to be at the forefront of engineering practice.
Coordinates with the SVP of Technical Services and other division technical directors to ensure standards are consistent throughout the organization.
Reviews manpower assignments to ensure staffing needs are met. Recommends and coordinates changes with project managers’ and Technical Vice President’s approval.
Works with Technical Vice President to ensure staff is being appropriately used according to their strengths and/or professional development goals. This includes succession planning and developing recommendations for hires and terminations.
Provides training and technical leadership to appropriate personnel regarding engineering analysis and design standards.
Manages technical software use and purchasing across division.
Develops and manages software use manuals and guides which set company standards on how to operate each piece of software (i.e. Risa, SAP, SAFE, etc.) as well as tutorials.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
Professional Engineer Registration required.
Minimum of twelve years’ experience in engineering and management.
Excellent attention to detail and technical written and verbal communication skills; public speaking and presentation experience preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills with a propensity for the development, mentorship, and guidance of potential leaders.
Experience as a technical leader of a team of engineers.
Builds constructive and effective internal and external relationships.
Maintains knowledge of current industry trends and issues.
Must be able to deliver results and manage work, people and processes from a central location.
Able to thrive in a team focused environment and engage in creative, critical thought; takes initiative and can function at a high level on multi-disciplinary teams.
