By joining our Division of Structural Design as an Engineer-in-Training I in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to learn perform technical engineering work to develop practical skills in support of academic theory to provide sufficient competence to qualify for registration as a Professional Engineer under KRS 322; learning to design highway structures in accordance with the Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Load Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) Bridge Design Specifications.
Holders of the Engineer-In-Training I position will complete tasks such as:
Design culverts and bridges using the Load Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) Bridge Design Specifications Code.
Use Mathcad software.
Detail structures using MicroStation software.
Check designs of other engineers.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
Knowledge of engineering design Code.
Gain experience with Mathcad and MicroStation software.
Working with engineers to accomplish project tasks.
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
Experience with Autocad or MicroStation softwares.
Willingness to learn.
Ability to work with others.
Additional position information (travel required, standing/stooping/bending/lifting, sitting at a desk, etc.) Will require limited travel, job is primarily computer work sitting at a desk.

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with an accredited bachelor's degree in engineering and certification as an Engineer-In-Training recognized by the State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Incumbents working in this job title will perform duties in an office setting as well as in a field setting.
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
