i3 is seeking an entry-level Aerothermal Engineering Analyst to perform aerothermal analysis and design of complex thermal protection system (TPS) technologies to include development of aerothermal environments and assessment of corresponding material ablation and in-depth thermal performance supporting hypersonic missile and flight vehicle system development. The selected candidate will utilize high-fidelity analytic methods and tools, such as full Navier-Stokes computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and coupled transient analysis codes, to characterize hypersonic aerothermal environments and boundary layer transition effects. The candidate will conduct ground- and flight-test experiments characterizing aerothermal environments and material properties as well as validating component level and integrated flight TPS designs. The candidate will be expected to work with some supervision. Must be willing to take on assignments outside of comfort zone, in a demanding and exciting environment.
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or Computer Science.
Security clearance Preferred.
Experience with analytic methodologies and/or full Navier-Stokes computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes to characterize hypersonic aerothermal flow field environments.
Knowledge of TPS technology physics to include ablation, decomposition, mechanical erosion, and conduction.
Experience with the Aeroheating and Thermal Analysis Code (ATAC) or similar thermal analysis tools (MINIVER, CBAERO)
Exposure to fields tightly coupled with aerothermodynamics such as trajectory analysis, aerodynamics or structures.
Python, FORTRAN, or similar coding experience
Some knowledge with 3D commercial thermal solvers (e.g. ANSYS, ABAQUS, FlowSim)
