The ALMACO Engineering Internship is a unique learning experience for students looking for real-world experience. Our interns get tons of hands-on experience in designing for our agricultural equipment and assisting manufacturing with updated documents and redesigns. Hours are flexible, the work is varied, and the group has a lot of fun. This is a great role for a student who is interested in all aspects of Engineering, from design to manufacturing to testing, and who is excited about working with lots of different types of people.
Please note - the next Internship opening will start between February 2020 and May 2020 and will last until December 2020, part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer months.
ALMACO Internship Program:
We ask that interns stay with us through at least one semester and one summer term (and this can be extended longer as well.) This internship can be completed in conjunction with classes, as we are located so close to Ames. We are flexible with start dates.
Hours of work: We ask for full-time hours (40 hours a week or more) during the summer and 10-20 hours a week during the school year. We are very flexible with school schedules and breaks. Typically work can be performed between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. M-F.
Work must be completed on-site, so transportation to and from ALMACO (which is in Nevada, Iowa, 10 miles east of Ames) is necessary.
You'll work with a team of Engineers to design and improve new and existing ALMACO agricultural research equipment. Our intern performs work that is very similar to our full-time Project Engineers, with a good support system and structure to help them succeed.
Who is eligible for our internship program:
Juniors or Seniors in the Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering programs who have had at least one or two internships or previous and related work experience. (December 2020 or May 2021 graduates are preferred.)
Individuals with demonstrated creativity, teamwork skills, and knowledge of agricultural research equipment and mechanical structures will be highly considered.
Individuals with interest (or even experience!) in agricultural equipment or a farming background are preferred, but we appreciate diverse backgrounds and if you make the case for why your background would be a fit, we will be open to hearing about it.
What do Interns do?
You'll work with an Engineer and employees in Manufacturing to update existing designs to aid in manufacturability - taking the notes from production on previous builds and making the necessary changes to parts and assemblies.
You'll design new features for existing products - for example, mechanisms or mounts that will add safety and usability benefits to our products.
