Formulates and prepares technical concepts, budgets, plans, and specifications for assigned rail rolling stock projects. Maintains familiarity with constantly changing federal codes and regulations.
Performs rail rolling stock inspections and witnesses static/dynamic testing of rail rolling stock vehicles. Evaluates modification requests and performs necessary administrative tasks.
Evaluates change requests and change orders, reviews technical questions and advises project managers of same. Reviews and prepares cost estimates for rolling stock procurements and consultant contracts.
Interprets and analyzes data pertaining to rail rolling stock equipment to ensure operational and maintainability requirements are satisfied.
Reviews and approves invoices for payment, prepares memos and letters, tracks open items, writes meeting minutes, updates progress reports, and attends and coordinate meetings.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Must be able to climb into locomotives and other rolling stock from ground via ladders and/or steps.
Must be able to walk around maintenance shops and yard, to include along tracks and rail beds, for extended periods of time.
Work-hour flexibility due to work requirements (including nights and weekends if needed).
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field, and a minimum of two years of applied progressive experience in maintenance, repair and/or design of rail rolling stock vehicles.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in MS Office applications required.
Must have a working knowledge of rail rolling stock.
