The W. M. Keck Observatory (WMKO) operates two 10-meter optical/infrared telescopes and an associated suite of advanced instrumentation. These telescopes have been extremely productive scientifically and have allowed the WMKO science community to play a leading role in understanding the universe from our solar system, to exoplanets, black holes, the earliest galaxies, and dark matter and energy.

This position provides mechanical engineering support for a variety of structural and mechanical tasks to develop new observatory capabilities and upgrade existing observatory systems encompassing a broad array of mechanical and opto-mechanical systems ranging from precision mechanisms and optics, to large structures and servo actuation systems.
Required Qualifications include:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Five (5) years' of mechanical systems hardware development experience.
Design, analysis, fabrication, test, and troubleshooting of mechanical/electromechanical devices, systems, and structures.
Proficiency with Solidworks CAD software or equivalent.
Proficiency in mechanical technical documentation generation and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Experience with Static and Modal Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
Experience supporting field installation and testing of mechanical systems.
