OMNOVA is seeking a self-motivated and driven individual for a Process Safety Engineer opening at our Mogadore, OH facility. The position will provide technical and tactical support and work with the plant safety, technical and engineering functions, with specific focus on executing process safety actions to reduce risk and assure compliance.
Your primary responsibilities…
Provide oversight for the site’s process safety information including: P&ID's, PFD's, chemical compatibility matrix, etc. Compile required process design information including PFDs, P&ID’s, Mass Balances, Equipment and Instrument Specification Sheets, etc.
Provide technical support to engineers, operations, and maintenance staff to ensure PSM/RMP process equipment is designed, maintained, changed, operated, and decommissioned in a responsible manner that complies with industry recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices.
Review and validate process equipment design specifications, safeguard specifications, and operating procedures. Complete process engineering calculations for relief loads, etc.
Assist with the development and review of inspection, testing and preventive maintenance plans for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation and controls equipment.
Facilitate investigations and analyze process safety incidents and near misses to assure effective and sustainable corrective actions are implemented.
Lead risk assessments and PHAs at the facility for anticipating, identifying and evaluating hazards and defining recommendations for improvement.
Facilitate and ensure proper execution of process hazard analyses, management of change, and pre-startup safety reviews.
Lead engineering projects focused on process safety improvement/risk reduction.
Foster process safety understanding and integration within the organization through coordination, training and coaching. Mentor and train technical and hourly employees to integrate process safety for continuous improvement in daily operations.
Provide routine communication to site management regarding process safety issues impacting site. Propose detailed plans to improve process safety performance and reduce risks.
Ensure management systems effectively address the facility’s process safety risks and execute process safety objectives according to the facility SHE&S plan.
Partner with safety and compliance network to develop and improve training, tools, and policies.
What we need from you…
Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
3+ years of experience in a process engineering, mechanical integrity, or reliability role within a PSM regulated operation
Experience in chemicals operation
Experience and working knowledge of Process Safety regulations
Experience with Process Hazard Analysis
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Strong interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills
Ability to work independently
Good administrative skills; development of procedures/checklists, filing and thorough documentation
Qualifications that can set you apart …
Supervisory experience within a chemical facility in operations, technical, or mechanical integrity role
Practical experience with PHA software (PHA Works, etc.)
Five or more years of experience in a process safety role or equivalent engineering experience within a PSM regulated operation
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or equivalent certifications
Understanding Level of Protection Analysis (LOPA); Safety Instrumented Systems, Independent Protection Layers, Instrumented Safety Function, Safety Integrity Level, and Risk Reduction Factors
