Summary

The primary job of this position is to understand the Electrical Control Systems of the Central Power Plant (CPP), including the Emerson Delta-V Main Control System for the entire Plant and the Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and be proficient in trouble-shooting, programming and modifying these control systems.
This position will have a good working knowledge with Variable Speed Drives.
This positon will be responsible for coordinating Cyber Security monitoring and improvement efforts with the University IT and Cyber Security Group.
This position will also require good personal communication skills with both hourly and salaried positions as well as outside contractors and engineering firms.
This position will, when necessary, supervise CPP Skilled Trades, Maintenance Repairpersons, I&C Repairpersons, and Operators when the Maintenance Supervisor or Operations Superintendent is absent.
Support all CPP Boiler CEMS Monitoring Systems to comply with Plant Air Permit and Regulations.

Utilities is a division of Facilities & Operations, made up of 135 dedicated employees responsible for providing utilities services for the university 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Services include campus-wide utilities purchasing, generation, and distribution, as well as metering and billing energy consumption for all university buildings. Distribution includes the operations and maintenance of 300 miles of underground utility systems from outdoor lighting and high voltage circuits to water mains to tunnel piping. The division also provides a wide range of engineering services primarily dedicated to energy management, the operations and maintenance of university facilities, and the utilities infrastructure.

Responsibilities*

Participate in Maintenance and Capital Project Planning Meetings.
Coordinate software updates in Delta-V and PLC control systems.
Coordinate firmware updates on 2.4 KV and 13.2 KV Switchgear Protective Relays.
Thorough understanding of CEMS and other Environmental Control Systems and Reporting.
Exhibit expertise of medium voltage switchgear (2.4 KV & 13.2 KV) knowledge both in trouble-shooting and maintenance procedures.
Experience working with 110 volt, 220 volt, and 480 volt electrical and control systems.
Exhibit a good knowledge of working in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Exhibit a thorough knowledge of Google Search, Email, Microsoft Word and Excel.
Proficient in electrical construction techniques and materials.
Identify and recommend training needs on existing and new equipment for Electricians and Instrument & Control Repairpersons.
Possess an understanding of OHSA and other Federal Safety Procedures and Policies.

Supervision Received

General supervision is from the CPP Maintenance Superintendent or Plant Manager.
May receive request from the CPP Operations Superintendent.

Required Qualifications*

BS Degree in Electrical Engineering plus five (5) years minimum working experience in a Power Plant or Industrial work place, Military Training and ten (10) years minimum electrical/electronic working experience, 2 year (AAS) Degree at an Accredited Electronic Trade School and ten (10) years minimum working experience or Marine Environmental or graduation from High School or GED with fifteen (15) years of electrical/electronic working experience in a Power Plant, Industry, or Marine Environment.
Reasonable Mechanical Aptitude.
Ability to exercise tact and discretion in relationships with subordinates, management, staff and outside contractors and other outside firms.
Must be able to perform the full range of duties, with or without a reasonable accommodation, in the classification in an environment that has high levels of heat and noise. This position must be able to traverse under and over obstacles, ascend/descend ladders, and move powerhouse equipment and materials weighing up to 50lbs.

Desired Qualifications*

Basic Power Plant or industrial Work Experience.
Basic knowledge of calibration procedures for temperature and pressure instrumentation.
Previous Supervisory Experience.
Previous Experience working in a Union Environment.
Bachelor of Science Degree (BSEE) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
LSA Level One Electronics Technician Certification or higher.
