Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Oceanography, Geophysics, Marine Science, Ocean Engineering, or a related field is required plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree in Oceanography, Geophysics, Marine Science, Ocean Engineering, or a related field with 0 years of experience

Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is PREFERRED at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Oceanographer/Geophysicist/Marine Scientist. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

At sea experience conducting surveys, research, testing, etc. is required
Strong abilities to process and analyze a variety of oceanographic, bathymetric, and hydrographic data to support engineering analysis is required
Ability to work within and established team structure is required
Experience conducting oceanographic surveys strongly preferred
Experience with ESRI Arc Map, or similar GIS software, strongly preferred
Experience with Makai software a strong plus
Experience and knowledge of undersea cable systems a plus
SECRET clearance a plus, but not required
This position may require up to 50% travel (both domestic and international)

Participates in requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of system elements direct supervision
Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
May develop system security documentation on both new and fielded information systems
Plans sub tasks for activities described above
Creative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skills
Defines processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility
Developing professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues
Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
Identifies, analyzes and resolves system design weaknesses
Receives instructions from immediate supervisor
Contact with multiple work groups
Works under general supervision
Contact with Deputy Program Managers Engineering (DPME) and other professionals within the Engineering department
May have some contact outside Engineering or with external customers
50% travel may be required
Security clearance will be required
Provides resolution to problems of moderate scope
Keeps abreast of technology trend

Familiarity with technical standards
Solid knowledge of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
Solid awareness of business objective and Engineering role in achieving
Solid knowledge of requirements management and system modeling tools
Ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and able to handle more complex assignments
