About the Position: This position is located at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Rucker is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville. The geography and climate are ideal for year round military training. Recreation activities are abundant in the immediate and surrounding areas for family and fun.
Conducts studies to identify environmental problems and performs analytical work which contributes to the effectiveness of environmental plans, programs and methods.
Collaborates with engineers and scientists to ensure consideration is given to all facets of the environmental problems so as to provide a logically balanced solution in the preparation of environmental assessments/impacts statements.
Conducts required inspections and audits and assists with assessments for environmental regulatory compliance.
Provides advice and assistance on matters relating to the development, execution, maintenance and enforcement of adequate environmental protection plans and programs.
Prepares and maintains reports of conservation and environmental status and activities relative to air and water quality as required by current laws and regulations.
Develops a public information program to inform the public of specific Army environmental programs.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing environmental-ecological field concepts, principles and practices of environmental and natural resources to provide advice and assistance for environmental programs in areas of ecology, sanitation pollution abatement, noise abatement, water distribution and treatment, solid waste disposal and hazardous, and toxic spill cleanup and disposal. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: environmental engineering; environmental science or a science-related field, such as biology, chemistry, physics, geosciences, engineering, natural sciences; natural resources management.
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
