SME is looking for a qualified, intermediate to senior Civil-Environmental Design Engineer who can take a project from concept through to completion of detailed design. Design work will include stormwater management, erosion control, pumping, piping systems, and geosynthetics. Your work will include the preparation of permits, technical reports, detailed design plans and specifications, and design support during construction.
Because the Civil-Environmental Design Engineer works closely with SME’s multidisciplinary staff, contractors, and clients, your strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills will be important to this role. At SME, we take pride in building and maintaining meaningful, long-term relationship.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years of design-related experience
- Experience with stormwater design, erosion control system design, pump and piping system design and selection
- Experience with creating grading plans and design specifications for construction for the above design components
- B.S. or M.S. in Environmental, Civil, or Geotechnical Engineering
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, HydroCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) software, and
- Familiarity with landfill components such as geosynthetic liners, earthwork, and liner construction techniques is a bonus but not a requirement.

Compensation and Benefits
SME offers an excellent compensation and benefits package. The company pays 100 percent of Medical, Life, and Long-Term and Short-Term Disability insurance, and annually contributes to each employee’s Health Savings Account. We provide paid vacation, holiday, and sick time. SME’s retirement plan includes three components: a generous 401k plan; profit sharing; and a non-discretionary 3% of gross pay contribution. There are year-end bonuses for all employees.
