The Senior Project Engineer (Turbomachinery) will provide oversight on large programs from inception to shipment. Utilizes broad project management and technical skill sets to develop custom turbomachinery products and related systems in diverse industries. These products include rocket turbopumps, turbine-alternators, turbocompressors, motor driven turbomachinery, auxiliary power units, cryogenic circulators, and various heat engines. Larger projects include leading BNI system level designs or integrating machinery into customer systems. Detailed tasks include providing input to sales proposals, project management, serving as the primary customer interface, coordinating detailed engineering design and analysis, providing oversight during hardware fabrication, developing and executing test plans, and driving organizational awareness for project resource needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead increasingly challenging projects to develop custom turbomachinery and related systems with minimal supervision.
Project management that includes developing customer relationships, developing and executing detailed project plans, managing scope and specifications, developing and meeting schedule milestones and budgetary commitments, identifying and mitigating risks, cross-organizational communication, and serving as the primary customer interface.
Effectively function in a team environment to drive organizational success. Provide mentoring for more junior project engineers and participate in continuous improvement efforts for BNI processes and tools.
Project engineering for turbomachinery and related systems that requires broad knowledge, technical leadership, and coordination of the following areas:
System level modeling and integration of turbomachinery
New product development and design for manufacture.
Detailed turbomachinery analysis including aerodynamic, structural, rotordynamics, bearings, seals, and secondary flow.
Assembly, testing, and field commissioning.
To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required.
Education and Training
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience working in high aptitude manufacturing environment.
Minimum ten years related experience and/or training in a project manager or project engineer role.
Demonstrated proficiency in project management with budgets in excess of $1 million.
Demonstrated proficiency in project engineering for rotating machinery projects that include custom design and analysis phases.
Desired Job Qualification:
Experience in Microsoft Project and ERP software.
Applicable training certificates (PMP, etc) and successful completion of the Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) or Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) are desirable.
A Colorado State Professional Engineer License is desirable.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Must be able to work in the U.S without sponsorship. Ability to obtain US government security clearance is required.
