Michael Baker International’s Water Group provides innovative consulting, planning and engineering solutions for the entire spectrum of the water cycle. We have proven experience in providing a full range of professional services from scientific and technical analysis, concept through design, and construction support services. Protection and management of water resources starts at the watershed level and follows the movement of water through urban and agricultural areas, streams, lakes and reservoirs, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants.

Michael Baker is seeking a highly motivated Department Manager with any or all of the following experience for our New Jersey Operations (Hamilton/Newark offices): managing floodplain mapping initiatives, mitigation and resiliency planning projects, transportation and/or water/wastewater design projects, while maintaining schedules and budgets. Extensive experience with client/permitting agencies, adept with professional networking and desire to further develop Michael Baker International’s water services in the Northeast is a must.

Clients: NJDOT, NJTA, SJTA, NJTPA, NYCDEP, Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission, City of Newark, FEMA, NJDEP, New Jersey American Water, County and Local MUAs, PANYNJ.
Experience with (but not limited to) Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modeling (including steady, unsteady and 2D), drainage design, water design, wastewater design, stormwater management design and regulations, soil erosion and sediment control design, scour analysis and design, riverine and coastal floodplain mapping, hazard mitigation/resilience planning.

Duties include:
Business development: develop and maintain client relationships and satisfaction.
Project management: manage and guide project managers and technical staff; prepare scopes of work, schedules, and cost estimates for proposals; manage staff utilization; ensure quality standards and deadlines are met.
Department management; create and monitor department budgets; provide leadership and direction by mentoring and motivating staff on issues such as performance feedback, financial management, and client relations; resolve personnel issues such as marginal performance, policy interpretations, and succession planning.
Professional development; participate in internal and external professional development activities such as conferences, professional organizations and continuing education.

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
15+ years of experience managing water resources tasks/projects required.
Professional Engineer licensed in New Jersey and New York (or the ability to obtain within 6 months).
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Access).
Excellent communication and written skills, time management, ability to multitask and prioritize competing project obligations.
Ability to work well on a team, provide feedback and motivate junior staff.
