At Beyond Meat, we started with simple questions. Why do you need an animal to create meat? Why can’t you build meat directly from plants? It turns out you can. So we did. We make plant-based meats that allow families to eat more, not less, of the traditional dishes they love while feeling great about the health, sustainability, and animal welfare benefits of plant protein. Our goal is to bring exciting change to the plate—and Beyond.
The Process Development Team of Beyond Meat™ is looking for an outstanding individual to join the R&D team located in El Segundo, CA. The Innovation Engineer’s primary role is to bring machinery ideas to life for use from lab to production scale. The role includes working with the process development team in R&D to create, optimize, launch, and sustain machinery as it is used in the prototyping and production of new plant-based meat products.
Lead the design of products and systems from concept to production capacity deployment
Collaborate with different R&D subdivisions to develop coherent machinery design parameters for optimal process control
Design mechanisms that interface with food products and function in wash-down environments
Consider user friendliness and assembly/disassembly difficulty for production facility employees’ interactions with machinery
Integrate electrical systems within mechanical designs to enable real-time process control and quality characterization
Work in a fast-paced environment with rapid prototyping cycles
Maintaining digital/physical part documentation
B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering / Mechatronics / Product Design
Has the first-hand familiarity with manufacturing techniques including electrical circuit design +troubleshooting, control systems design + troubleshooting, 3+1 axis CNC milling/turning, soldering, etc.
Extensive familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Inventor
Bonus if experienced in simulation software (ANSYS / SolidWorks)
Bonus if experienced in CAM software (e.g., HSM Works) and trochoidal milling techniques
Extensive experience programming and testing mechatronic systems using prototyping tools (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.), and creating finalized iterations from those prototypes
Experience leading the creation of electro-mechanical products from concept to high-volume (or otherwise production scale) deployment
Experience developing robotic systems with many moving components
Knowledge of GD&T and ASME standards
3+ years of experience in mechanical design
